New Times Square Disney Store....

I took an imprmptu trip to NYC on Sunday for some brunch at Alice's Tea Cup ( http://alicesteacup.com/ ) and then went to check out the new Disney store. I LOVED the old NYC one which was a few blocks over! It was the neatest Disney store with artwork like you see in specialty shops in Disney World and other collectibles you could not get at a regular mall Disney store. So when I heard about all the cool things they were putting in the new Time's Square needless to say I was thrilled! So I prepped with some fun lunch @ Alice's and then headed over to the shop all psyched up and......I was soooo dissappointed! The amazing brand new store they plugged so much around here was nothing but a huge, regular, mall Disney store! All the special artwork was gone and so are the collectibles. Basically, it's another giant toy store in NYC. Disney= fail on this one....

However, brunch was great! If you come to the area, check it out!

OK,

1. I LOVE Alice's Tea Cup. The Banana Chocolate scones are amazing!!!

2. I LOVED the 55th and 5th store. I used to go there all the time after work when I worked in Manhattan.

3. I'm hearing the same reaction from anyone who knew the old store. Everyone's saying "what makes this so special?" The old store was a wonderland; this one seems to be all fluff.

Thanks for the review!

So Alice's Teacup = Good
Disney Store = Fail

I'm really surprised to hear it's so lame, they hyped up how it was going to be an "Experience" etc, etc. Although I guess I don't know why I'm surprised they hype up lots of stuff.

Thanks for the review!

Awe bummer!!!

I am sure to me it wouldn't seem amazing..but our Disney store..well it doesn't exist anymore..but I digress..I hate that they took away some of the charm!!

But that Alice's Tea Cup looks so cute! I want to go there!!

I just went on Monday...and actually liked it. I hadn't been to the other one, but I thought this was much better than a regular mall store. It was spread out and in different sections with a movie in each section and was split up pretty well. I loved the Christmas section too.

I thought it was cool that I went up the escalator into the top floor and it felt...magical. I don't know I liked it.

I've heard that a lot of the bells and whistles are in the interactive elements like the princess mirrors. And someone mentioned something to me about an interactive CARS experience where you could talk to Lightning McQueen -- kind of like Turtle Talk?

Yes, there is an interactive princess mirror section but waiting on line to get to it is like waiting on line for an attraction at WDW! So many kids on line! It's not terrible. The old one was just better....more magical. This one is just a toystore with some bells and whistles.

While I really appreciate the review, this post gives me hope for all the other stores that are supposed to be renovated, I assume, in a similar fashion to the Times Square store. I know that a new store has opened in Tampa, but I haven't been. Has anyone else been to any of the other new stores to compare/contrast with NYC?
