Park Priorities and Making Choices

I've been getting a bunch of flack about my upcoming Disney trip because I don't plan on going to the Magic Kingdom -OR- Epcot on this one. It's not that I don't want to, I just didn't have the money for 4 day tickets, so we're not doing it. Plus, I've done MK and Halloween Party before. I've done Epcot for Food & Wine festival before. What I haven't done is see Pandora, Rivers of Light, or Toy Story Land, and the new experiences win out.

Yes, sure. There will be things that I feel like I've missed. I could easily fill two more days with things that I want to do or see at the other Parks, but priorities. Ya know? It really makes me feel bad when people put me down for not making time to go to Park A or B, when I'm just trying to make the most of what I can do.

Would you consider a Disney trip without hitting every Park? Would you be able to be happy if you missed MK or Epcot during some of your favorite events so that you could do things you never had before?

What goes into how you decide what you do on your Disney vacations?

I'm sorry to hear that folks are making you feel bad about your trip... That's really not very magical of them.

Here's the way I look at it... Everyone's Disney Vacation is THEIR OWN! And that's the cool thing about it... you get to choose what you want to do.

Usually, the length of time of my visit really determines which park or parks I visit. A few years ago, I happened to be at Disney for a Convention.... but because of the limited time I had, I only visited two parks.

I actually know someone that takes a family vacation once a year in December with their four kids, staying on property, but they enjoy the resort so much, that they actually only "visit the parks" every other year.

Truthfully, I don't make it to disney that often ... so when I wait a few years before going back, I'm going to try to book a longer trip.

But that's not the point.... Everyone has their own preferences for parks and rides. Make your trip your own and visit what you want to visit.

Absolutely! I'm with you....we have done MK enough that I could skip it in favor of the newer attractions at the other parks and not feel gypped. Same for EPCOT. Focusing on TSL and Pandora makes total sense to me. The other parks will still be there the next time. yay laugh

A lot of my decisions are based on what rides I want to do and what I think will be busy vs not busy. Though lately it's always busy, it seems. Oh, and what FPs I can get. And the weather. If it's too hot I avoid EPCOT because I don't want to walk around the world showcase. MK has alot of cooler (as in air conditioned) indoor attractions which also allows more options when it is raining.

I still refer to several crowd calendars to decide which parks on which days. And who has EHMs. I would happily avoid EPCOT completely during the Food and Wine Festival because of the crowds and were just not all that into the foods.

I don't understand why other people care what you do on your trip. They're not going, they're not paying, who cares?

Personally, I could never skip MK. It's my favourite! I've never seen avatar so I wouldn't have cared not seeing pandora, but that's just me. I could easily skip Hollywood studios as it's my least favourite. I do want to see toy story land though!

Also, it's easier to skip things you've seen/done before when you know you'll be back.

Of course, you should do your vacation your way! It is your vacation to plan any way you choose.

I myself could not skip Magic Kingdom. However, I could skip EPCOT and not even miss it. However, that would be how I planned my trip. I am sure none of us would plan the same two park days.

I'm with Spook. Personally I couldn't take a WDW trip without visiting MK, but that is me. I know that everyone else has different priorities and it totally makes sense to put the new lands you haven't visited at the top of your list.

Thanks guys!

I think people some people assume they get a say in how I travel because I write about it. It sort of opens a door to all sorts of stuff. I'm getting so excited about this trip, there is so much still to do. 44 days and counting!

Ok, I know I am in the minority here but I am not a fan of the MK. When JoAnn and I went a couple days ago it was the first time I have been in the last few trips.

We did have fun but it was a party day so crowds were low, it had rained and was overcast so it was cool. If it had been busy or hot I would have been different.

Our favorite rides are my priority so mostly AK and HS. Also dining. If it's in a park then great, if it is somewhere else then that is where we will hang for a bit.

Do what you like. Heck, I've even considered trips with no parks. eek eek eek eek
