Joe:

Hope you don't stop posting your pics! I think some of us are shy and prefer to put up pictures of things than ourselves, but Caitie and TeacherDrama have put up their Honeymoon Trip Report too.

Sometimes chemotherapy can be brutal. A trip to Disney world is a marvelous cure. Here is Jan about 4 years ago during one of her 4 bouts with cancer enjoying a glass of water ( She's a cheap date.) at the Poly. Hotel hopping is great.

The best place to be to recover from chemo is Disney! That place really does have healing powers.

I can only imagine that having the distractions of Disney magic would be a great way to take your mind off of chemo related issues.

10 more days.
Jan is not doing chemo now, just radiation. After over 7 years of treatments for all kinds of problems she is just getting tired of it all.
BUT!!! It wont be long till she has this look on her face again.

She sounds like a trooper to me! And you guys have definitely created a life for yourselves that sounds wonderful. Four times a year to Disney World must be fantastic! Just being there is magical. mickey

I'm glad to hear it has the intended comforting effect. When you're going through stuff like that I imagine it can be really good to have something to look forward to in the near future. It would be great to always have a trip not too far in the future.

It is a wonderful life. Our kids help make it that way. To spend 6 nights at Pop Century next week has cost me $432.00 total. We have already paid it so the only expence still to come is fuel cost driving the 2+ hrs getting there and back plus the cost of what we eat while there. If we want to have a fancy sit down, served meal we just won't get one of Jan's meds next month. laugh Never going to theme parks saves big bucks.
We already have our reservations (6 more nights) in Dec..
The kids know we want our ashes dumped in Disney World. Disney doesn't know it so keep it under your hat.

This picture shows what we did with the kids and grandkids every Saterday night we spent at WDW for 15 years. The tables and snack bar right outside the best game room in Disney resorts was great and is why we were so ooo disappointed when they took it away to make room for the Wave rest. at the Contemporary.

Yeah! The Food and Fun Center! Great photo!

And if Disney only knew how many people must dump ashes in the Magic Kingdom every year... I can't even imagine!

So, Joe, do you and Jan have any traditions that you do every time you're at disney? Places you HAVE to eat, spots you HAVE to visit, etc? I love to hear about that stuff.

8 more days!!!
One thing we always do is have a dinner at Trails End at least once during every stay. The food is always good but more important is that we befriended a waiter there 15 years ago when he first started. We never fail to see Gary and he always remembers us and takes care of us.
We always go to Downtown Disney to hang out. We like to have Fish & Chips at Cook's of Dublin. Good food, good price. We try never to miss a treat at Beaches & Cream at the Beach Club. Jan is the banana split and I'm the hot fudge sundae ( super size). A trip to the Boardwalk for some hot wings at ESPN lounge can't be beat.
Always boat rides & monorail rides.
On a weeks trip we try to get to as many Resorts as possible but can't always make it.
Remember no theme parks are in our agenda.

Picture is of Gary, our friend , and Jan at Trails End.

How far along are you guys in preparations and packing? Some people are practically done 8 days out and some wouldn't even dream of starting until the night before. How are you guys doing?

Good question Brad. Just yesterday Jan told me she was almost packed. Any time I say to her "Hey! Lets go to Disney." she will tell me she needs 15 minutes to pack.
I only have one weeks worth of clothing so I will wash them on Saturday, pack them Saturday night and hit the road to WDW on Sunday morning.

I always take pictures when in WDW.
Cooks of Dublin is attached to Raglan Rd. in Downtown Disney as you can see in the picture. The other picture is my brother handing me a beer while waiting to eat at Cooks of Dublin. The bar is the Hole In The Wall. He wanted to buy the beers. When he got the check he almost passed out. He said he could buy a case of Bud for that much. ( We are just introducing my brother and his wife to WDW resorts.)I replied that I only frequent the better establishments.

Subvetts, will you have internet access while you're there? I'm really interested in how you get so much out of WDW without spending a lot of $$. That's very hard to do.

One of my favorite things to do is visit resorts. They're so lovely and I always feel so posh in the lobbies. biggrin

I posted this on another Disney forum with the attempt to be humorous. I hope you take it as the same intent.
To spend the least amount of money in WDW the following is recommended:

1- Move to Florida and only stay at value resorts during Florida resident rates.
2- Leave the kids home with someone else.
3-Never set foot in a theme park, (Save BIG bucks with this one.)
4-Never drive your own vehicle anywhere in WDW.
5- Bring plenty of Pop Tarts to eat in your own room.
6-Never eat anywhere that someone serves you your food at a table. ( A hot fudge sundae is considered an ample meal, and cheap.)
7- If you must eat out eat only at McDonald's in Downtown Disney
8-Never tip a Cast member.(They won't remember you anyway.)
9- Never, ever buy any souvenirs.
10- Always use your original resort mug at any resort you visit any time your there. ( no one will ever call you out for it.)
And for an added perk: Swim in any pool they don't check you at.
With enough will power you can have a great week at WDW for about $500.00 including fuel in you car to get you there and back.
Joe

Some great points, there, Joe! Wink (And although I know it's tongue-in-cheek -- I HAVE to tip cast members!)

Can't wait. Planned another big surprise for my honey, but I think I'm going to keep that one under my hat. Will let everyone know how it goes.

What's your pop-tart preference? I go for Brown-Sugar Cinnamon, then Strawberry. Both have to be frosted.

There aren't any toasters in the rooms at Pop Century.

I switch off between toasted and un, but more often they are toasted. I only eat the Fiber One poptarts these days though. In my opinion, they're just as good and actually have some healthful properties. My favorite flavors are also brown sugar & cinnamon and strawberry.

Last surprise I have planned is a multi-step one. Hopefully it will be one of the highlights of the trip.
