Post wedding ideas?

Hi there,

Am new here and looking for some advice.I am getting married on October the 9th this year in Disney and was looking for any ideas to treat my future wife. We are staying at the grand floridian and I have seen there are movies by the beach under the stars which looks good,is this free? Also a hot air balloon ride in downtown Disney. Does anyone have any other ideas for what i could do to make this trip even more special?

Thanks

Hi! Angelous and welcome to WDWFG glad you found our little gathering of Disney loving people. I will just touch on the two things that you mentioned the movies on the beach are indeed free and the few times I went (at a different resort) there were still a lot of seats available. You can check the available movies on the informational leaflet put out at each resort. As for the Balloon ride it is a tethered HELIUM filled ballon which is stationed at Down Town Disney and is called "Characters in Flight" it rises and comes down by the use of a winch. I have been on it quite a few times. The first time i went up it was nightime and we were so enthralled with the view that we went back to see the same sights in daylight and it was absolutely breathtaking. It is highly recomended by myself and other board members, and I am sure Mrhub will join in and tell you of his and his wife's (scrappy) trips on "Characters in Flight. Since you will find that this is a very friendly and helpful group others will give you much more info on all aspects of WDW.

Have you checked into fireworks cruises? They can be costly but well worth it. Also the Afternoon tea at the Grand Floridian is a neat experience.

The Carriage Rides at the Port Orleans resort is super romantic too. It'd be a hike from the GF...but worth it. While a little more adventurous the tours around the parks are always great fun. I love the Segway tours but I have heard good things about a lot of the MK tours. Are you staying long after your wedding? We honeymooned in Disney around that same time (we were married on October 7th) and it was a great week to visit! Also, Food and Wine will be happening while you are there and just eating and drinking around the world is great fun!

Welcome and congratulations on your upcoming wedding. You will also be there while Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party is going on. It may not be the most romantic idea, but I hear it is a lot of fun.

Welcome to the boards and congratulations on your upcoming wedding. At what location within Disney are you getting married? I like the idea of taking a private fireworks cruise as a special treat, or you could plan an evening and dine at the California Grill atop the Contemporary and watch the fireworks from their observation platform!

Hi there,

Thanks for the amazing feedback. There are some excellent suggestions here. We are arriving on the 3rd of October, tying the knot on the 9th and leaving on the 17th so we have plenty of time there. We feel in love with the place a few years ago so we thought it would be the perfect place to get married and have the honeymoon. I have been looking at that balloon experience, So it would be recommended? Sorry for my ignorance but can this be booked or do you pay on the day when you turn up? I was looking at the show "Cirque de solel" is it? Is this worth going to? I have read alot of excellent reviews. Also my fiancee wants to go to see that Mickeys halloween party, so that should be cool. I have seen the hollywood horror nights at universal, is this any good?

Again thanks for the info.

Cheers

Sorry Kris, we are tying the knot at the white church just close to the GF, so am hoping the weather will be nice that day. Is the weather generally good in October time?

Thanks

Hi angelous2332, Yes the "Characters In Flight" balloon ride is recommended & so is "Cirque du Soleil". MNSSHP is also great!

As far as I know they do not book rides on Characters in Flight because the do NOT fly if there is adverse weather conditions such as rain and especially windy condition so you purchase your tickets at the time of flight. As far as Universal Horror nights I have never been BUT from what I understand it is more of a haunted house type of atmosphere where they try to frighten the daylights out of you whereas MNSSHP (which I have attended) is a very friendly not at all scary, very enjoyable time. MNSSHP is very highly reccomended, as is Cirque du Soleil.

welcome and congrats

I've been down in October the past two years and the weather has been beautiful during both trips. It can sometimes still be very warm there then, so take that into consideration when packing. Movies under the stars are indeed free! You should be given an activities guide when you check in to the Grand.

You've got some great ideas here already, a fireworks cruise would be fabulous, tea at the Garden View, From 4pm-10pm there's live Jazz in the Lobby of the GF, dinner at the California Grill is fantastic and a Carriage Ride (Fort Wilderness would be the closer than Port Orleans) is super romantic.

There are several places around the parks where you can have your portrait done, or silhouettes cut for a romantic take home gift to commemorate your wedding.

Thanks again for all the fantastic suggestions. I will look into that carriage ride at fort wilderness. I think that sounds an excellent idea. Thanks for the ideas as there are plenty of suggestions. Thank you all again very much. Fantastic response and plenty to think about. Yeah i think MNSSHP would be alot better suited to us as the halloween horror nights really do look pretty intense, lol.

Thank you all very much for the information.

Thanks again.

One piece of advise for La Nouba, get tickets in the higher rows. A lot of the show is in the air, so I wouldn't recommend floor level seats.

Tickets for MNSSHP went on sale May 02 last year, so I suspect it will be around the same time this year.

Any seats are good really as long as you don't get the ones right down in the front. I recommend getting seats in Sections 102, 103 or 104 near the top of those sections, they are where we have sat and those were great.

Excellent, i was looking at the sort of seats in the 103 area. But i think anywhere will be good. Is there plenty of outdoor activites to be on with whilst we stay at the Grand Floridian? I have seen that hard rock cafe has concerts, is there a way to find out who would be playing in October time?

Thanks

Hi Angelous and welcome! Hard Rock Cafe is part of the Universal Studios complex. You can probably see a schedule of events online. House of Blues is a similar venue at Disney, and will also have their schedule of events online. If it's not there now, it should be soon.

We sat in section 105 right in the front row and boy I had a stiff neck at the end of the evening. But it was worth it. wink

The Grand Floridian has a Marina for boating (rentals) or just riding back and forth around the lake and lagoon on the transportation loops. There are two outdoor pools with spas and a beach at the Grand Floridian and ample grounds to stroll. At 8:00PM there are Movies at the Courtyard Pool. The electrical water pageant sails nightly, usually starting at 9:00, from The Magic Kingdom resort area. If you plan on eating at the Gasparilla Grill at all there's outdoor seating near the Marina. On Monday and Friday at 8:00am there's the housekeeping Parasol Parade on the grounds.

Over at Fort Wilderness you can rent bicycles and horseback ride (western trail). There's a great jogging path you can stroll that connects Fort Wilderness to Wilderness Lodge. There are also great golf courses at WDW.

Do you mean concerts at the House of Blues? That's the concert venue at Downtown Disney and their upcoming events can be found online at http://www.houseofblues.com/tickets/searchresults.php?venue=orlando

Thanks again for the information. I have had a look on the house of blues and i have found the hard rock cafe but there is nothing much on for October. Will more acts be announced closer to the time?

Thanks Kristen for the information on the GF, thanks again for that.

It's still pretty far out to be looking for October concerts, keep checking back. Summer concert schedules usually come out around May, so you still have a good amount of time.

We sat towards the top of 104 and it was perfect! We loved it! I would love to see it again!

Yeah you do not want the first 4 or 5 rows down to the stage, but after there they are no problem.

Cool, thanks for letting me know. I will keep an eye out for the concerts and see what comes up. Is there anywhere else in orlando that holds concerts apart from the hard rock cafe?

The Amway Arena, which is dowtown and home to the NBA Orlando Magic, also holds concert events and this is their schedule as of today.

The Bob Carr Performing Arts Center also has concerts, in addition to Broadway shows and other performances.

Circque is awesome, you will love it. And the weather should be absolutely perfect, we live here and October and March are my favorite months here. It will be warm, but the summer heat and humidity should be gone. It's been a warm winter this year, and March was warmer than usual. It's 87 here today, and it was hot and humid Sat. at MK. I always look for weddings at the GF when we ride by on the monorail. Sometimes we even get a peek of the horse and carriage -so cool! You will have an incredible time!
