Random Attraction Question

In my past four visits to WDW, which were in a 3.5 year period, the Yeti on Everest has not worked or either wasn't working that day. I only see his shadow, not the animatronic Yeti. Why is this? Am I missing something?

Haunted Mansion - They squish you in the stretching room like a bunch of sardines then as soon as the doors open, everyone runs down the hall where you are then forced-squished into a single file line, which always causes issues because people are impatient and there are never cast members standing to direct traffic. Why is this? It's always annoyed me.

Why is Peter Pan always a 50+ minute wait? Besides the fact that it's popular, the actual attraction is constantly moving unless they need to stop it for a handicap person to load. I don't understand why it's always such a long wait.

Why did they add lap bars to Splash Mountain? For the longest time you held on to the little hand bar directly in front of you.

Have been woundering about all this for a while and thought I'd let you guys inform me! mickey

Ok, Here's my take on it...Oh no, I hear you say...The yeti..Animal Kingdom is in the jungle, right..Therefore in the jungle, the quiet jungle, the yeti sleeps tonight...Hold on...My good wife says it's time for bed... sad

My guess for the lap bars for Splash Mountain would be updated/new safety regulations.

I have no idea what Peter Pan always has a long line. We've been wondering that forever!

I've never really noticed much of a traffic jam in HM but whenever we go on it's not too crowded.

I only ever remember the yeti's eyes glowing. Maybe that's all he does confused

I seem to remember reading the animatronic Yeti was removed. I have never seen it either.

You see the Yeti twice during Expedition Everest ride. The first is a projected shadow of the Yeti tearing up the track. The second Yeti appearance, is a hugh animatronic version that used to make a swooping motion at the train as it pass by. The big Yeti is still there, but it no longer moves. Instead they flash some strobe lights.

The Yeti stopped working a couple of years after the ride opened. What I have been told is that Expedition Everest is made up of three structures, the mountain, the ride/track inside the mountain, and the Yeti. Each of these structures are anchored into three seperate foundations in the earth. The yeti is very big, probably 30ft tall and used to move rather quickly as the "train" passed near him. The rapid movement of the big heavy yeti required some very powerful hydraulic actuators.

Now, as we all know from our studies of Newton's laws, for for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. What this means to the Yeti is that to make him move quickly the actuators put a lot of force on his foundation. This application of force was repeated many times a day and eventually caused the Yeti foundation to fail.

The effort to repair the Yeti foundation will require the whole ride to be shut down, partially disassembled, and be out of service for a very extended time.

In the lingo of the engineers I work with, "it's broke and it will be a PIA to fix it."

That is also my understanding of what happened to the Yeti. awesome

Splash Mountain - you would be surprised at the number of tourists that thought getting out of the logs in the middle of the ride was a good idea. Eventually someone got injured, and now we have lap bars. There's always one that spoils the fun for all. sarcastic

Haunted Mansion - Very good question. I have my own issues with how they manage this ride and never seem to be able to get Disney to say anything smart about it. confused

Peter Pan - It doesn't move fast enough for all the guests that want to ride. It just doesn't. sad

This drives me crazy too! We go to MK every time we are at WDW and we always go on HM. So we ride the HM between 25-35 times a year. It seems that the pushing, and sometimes shoving, is just getting worse each time we go. The last time we went on it was a few weeks ago, and when they opened the stretching room doors, it was actually a stampede to the front of that single file line. People running and pushing. ADULT people! It was ridiculous.

I agree about HM...don't get the pushing...your party gets its own car ...well as long as your party is more than 3. wink

Yea. Now, we literally let everyone else get in front of us and we just go last. We will all get a doom buggy to ride in and for my sanity, I'd rather just wait.

More about the Yeti- since Animal Kingdom doesn't have quite as many attractions, park management apparently doesn't feel comfortable closing one of the big rides for an indeterminate, perhaps lengthy, amount of time. Now, once Avatar Land opens up, that might take some pressure off, allowing Expedition Everest to get a proper refurbishment.

the yeti is there but is in disco mode with his less than awesome strobe light as he can't move anymore

the stretching room is there from when the attraction was designed as a walk through, however this changes the doom buggy load and un-load system is the same as space ship earth this attractions can handle huge cowards at a time and my understanding is the room is there to add atmosphere and slow down the flow of traffic the same as tower of terror. Top tip just hang back, even in a full room once you leave the room your max wait is 5 mins

at pan the wait is long because the queue never stops being popular. due to word of mouth people run there early, because it's aimed at kids lots of people re-ride and its a ride everyone can or will ride.

splach does have a lap bar and does not need one. gravity keeps you in the log.

Thanks everyone! Yea, it doesn't surprise me people are dumb enough to try to get out of rides...now I remember there was someone who was acting foolish a few years ago and fell in between two logs in the loading area of splash and it literally crushed him. I don't remember if it killed him or he just lost his legs...

I know a man died in 2000 or 2001 on splash mountain when he climbed out of the boat and was hit by another boat. If I remember correctly, the other passengers told police that he just climbed out on his own.

From my understanding, then Yeti had to be turned off because it is so powerful that it would of shaken the mountain apart. To fix this problem, would require to take them mountain apart. A big factor from my understanding is that Joe Rohde won't let them do that since Animal Kingdom is his baby.

EE is the most expensive coaster in the world. Pathetic.

Peter Pan is a low capacity ride. Riders per hour is very low.

Bar on SM because some momo stood up and fell out.

As I have never been to wdw, I checked out a YouTube video of Peter Pan's Flight to see what all the hype was about and if it was worth the wait in line. I am completely mystified... the ride looks terrible! My kids and I have decided that none of us wants to ride it even if the line should be walk on. Am I missing something secret and magical and appealing about the ride that isn't obvious from the YouTube video?

It's actually a classic dark ride from the golden age of Disney.

No, we weren't there. I just heard about it. Although, in my Disney experience, I've witnessed some major idiots doing very stupid things on rides...

Peter Pan ride vehicles hold around 2 to 3 passengers, the ride itself only takes around 300 passengers an hour! Think I heard that on a pod cast!

Oh, you have to ride it at least once! It's such a traditional Disney ride. I love seeing the older art and concepts. I have to ride it at least once per trip...so I go first thing during magic hours or at the very end of the night during magic hours. Smile
