So, I've got a question for you guys.
Neither Andrew or I have been to Epcot since Mission: SPACE opened. We are super excited to ride it, but can't decide if we should do the original version or the wussy version!
We both love coasters, but aren't huge fans of virtual reality (I'm fine on Star Tours & such, but other VR experiences have made me feel sick).
So, what are your experiences? If we do the wussy version are we going to miss out on the whole experience? Will we even feel any movement? How did you like it and would you do it again?
Any input would be appreciated!
To Ride -or- Not to Ride?
It's really not that bad. Just breathe deeply and keep your eyes open, and you should be OK.
If you're really concerned, there's rarely a line so make Andrew ride it first and tell you if you'll be able to handle it. (Seriously, that might be a good idea.)
Ooh! I'm so excited for you guys!

Lol, except for he is the one set on the wussy version and I'm the one wanting to brave the original one!
I think I'm going to do the original at least, but just curious about all of your thoughts!
You'll be fine. I am mildly claustrophobic and have a wussy stomach and I was still fine. Just follow the directions:
Don't close your eyes.
Don't look to the side.
In the interest of full disclosure, I should admit that I always get mildly nauseous for about 5 minutes afterwards. It really is worth it though.

Actually, I've been a few times since Mission:SPACE opned in 2003, but I haven't been since the wussy version opened.
I didn't ride because I was afraid that the motion of the ride would make me feel uncomfortable for the rest of the day, and I don't want to risk ruining an Epcot day with nausea.
Anyway, now that there are two versions and I get a choice, I may ride both, but I'll more than likely ride the less intense version first.

I have to say that the first time I went I was a little nervous. There's so many warnings that I was convinced I was going to be miserable, but it turned out to be not bad at all.

The build-up is actually the worst part. I think so many people "inappropriately" chose to ride in the beginning days that they stepped up the warnings. Nowadays, going through the line could convince even the most thrill-seeking rider have second thoughts.

Ride at night!

Well, I'm convinced that I have to try the original version...I think I'll drag Andrew on with me as well!
Thanks for the insight, if we get sick, we will blame you!
Seriously, you made me feel much better!
Hi,
I rode it in 2003 on an empty stomach (which I don't recommend; but I was afraid that if I ate a full breakfast before the ride, I would have a PPS--projectile protein spill). A little dizzy after I got off, I was fine within five minutes.
In general, I find that eating a banana about two hours before going on potential "barf rides" (i.e., roller coasters, spinners and simulators) protects from serious nausea.

That's recommended by The Unofficial Guide as well. I tried it for my first ride, and it didn't seem to do any harm!

I've heard about this technique too, but I was told that the main reason for it is because bananas don't taste so bad when they come back up.
Sorry, just reporting what I've heard.
