Seriously...why is this always so complicated?

So as some of you remember, we had to postpone our 2015 trip because of my mom's illness. We managed to go in February 2016 and had a great time as usual, but there were definitely some bumps in the road because of being worried about leaving my mother and traveling with another family that we had not traveled with before.

Fast forward to the next trip, originally planned for October for the Big Meetup. After I booked, my boss informed me that my vacation times now fell into a blackout period, so we rebooked for November 8th-12th. That was good and even saved us a few dollars plus my daughter was already going to be out of school for the NJEA convention that week.

All was going well until yesterday when JetBlue opened their bookings. $1500 for 3 of us to fly, which is about $700 more than we budgeted. I thought maybe it was a computer glitch until I started looking at other airlines. Nope, that is the standard price for that week due to the high demand of flights from NJ to Orlando yuck

My husband has very limited vacation days, I do not. So, as of now, it will just be me and the little one heading down while my husband stays home. It saved us a ton of money, and it will be a nice experience for just the two of us to get some alone time as she heads into her middle school years. Honestly, I think my husband might actually be relieved to not have to go to the World again this year laugh

We are looking to head to Mystic, CT for a long weekend this summer, so we can all do something together. So I guess all's well that ends well, and I managed to save what I thought was a doomed trip!

I think y'all will have a wonderful time together! I want to take a girls only trip with Blondie at some point!

Can't wait to see you!

You'll have a fantastic time! I absolutely love traveling with my girls. It's super nice to get that one on one time doing special things.

It sounds like you've got it all worked out, but if you're close enough to the border, I wonder if you couldn't have gotten a better deal from an airport in a neighboring state? "Jersey Week" has gotten so big at WDW that touringplans.com actually shows it influencing crowd levels because so many folks from New Jersey spend that week at Disney.

We looked at JFK and LaGuardia and they were cheaper but such a pain to get to! Technically we only live 30 minutes from NYC but factoring in tolls and traffic, I knew it would be a pain. I got a flight out of Newark last night for me and the little one for $460. I am very happy with that! And I think my husband might actually be happy to get a few days alone!!

Southwest flights were really reasonable and I should have booked, but my mom was like no they will get cheaper! So I waited and now they have gone up almost $200 for the time we are going in September. Needless to say she said she is going to pay for them as part of our wedding gift now. Lol.

I was a little nervous about Southwest and not being able to get a seat next to my daughter. People that I talked to said it would not be an issue and people would move to accommodate, but I am not so sure about that. People can be in funny sometimes.

Yes that is the weird thing about them usually they are pretty good about it. But you never know. Southwest is the only flights that fly direct from the airport near me. Otherwise we have to drive 2.5 hours to get to Boston to do Delta but Delta is usually more expensive.

I spent years saying "No Southwest, no Southwest" then Becks534 and I flew Southwest to California and now it's my "go to." I've been very happy traveling with them.

There is a bit of a different thought pattern when it comes to boarding, and first come first choice seating. I was worried that it would be this crazy chaos and stress me out, but it is actually very orderly and easy. It is totally worth the $12 upgrade (per person, per flight) to buy the Early Bird Check-in for both of you. That will get you and your daughter in the first half of the boarding group and though they can't promise you seats together, you shouldn't have a problem. It will also increase your chances of your carry-on luggage staying with you.

I always fly out of Logan (Boston) but always fly JetBlue. They are a fantastic airlines especially with the individual TV screens and Sirius XM channels they fly non stop and I believe just about the same cost, maybe just a little higher than SouthWest. By the way how far up in NH are you located, I live 15 minutes from Manchester in Merrimack NH and one and a quarter hrs from Logan. You must be in the Lakes region area. ( I used to have a home in Alton Bay)

I flew JetBlue once out of CT, it was very very nice.
No way! We are super close then. I live in the lakes Region, I am 15 minutes outside of Sunapee. Me and my mom go to the Merrimack Mall outlets all the time to the Disney Store.

I've never had an issue getting seats with my group on Southwest. Do the online check in right at the 24 hour prior mark and you should be in one of the first boarding groups. You might be more towards the back of the plane but you shouldn't have a problem getting two seats together.
