We have just booked a split stay coming up in November, 2 days lake view at the Poly Studios Villas and 4 days at a two bedroom in SSR. I am not really sure how split stays work so if anyone could help me out I would really appreciate it. Do you have two sets of magic bands? And how does it work with check in and check out? Also how does it work when it comes to attaching park tickets to the MDE and fast passes?
You will get multiple magic bands, but they will have the same info on both sets. You can link your tickets and they will be linked to all bands. You need to get them prior to the 60 day window for fast pass selection.
Be sure to check out of Poly and go to SSR and check in. Then you can go about your business and wait to get a text that your room is ready. But you should go to SSR. You can have your bags shipped to SSR but they could get there at any time during the day. You cannot take luggage on Disney buses - but you can take a cab with your luggage and check it with bell services. And remember there is no resort to resort Disney transportation. So you may want to take the boat to MK and then a bus to SSR.

We are doing our first split stay in September. We're doing a week at Boardwalk and a week at Beachclub. Are we able to just walk from one to the other with our luggage?

Of course - it's about a 7 min walk and the walkway is paved so you could easily pull your luggage with you. That's what I would do.
