I kind of have an idea what it is, after much frustration myself.

I'm not sure I should share it here, in case there is someone who doesn't want a spoiler.

Ok, here's what I know.

Disney is going to roll out a new fan club. I know, it sounds a little anti climactic, but this is no ordinary fan club. This fan club is going to be targeted to the "serious Disney fan" (like us). They say that current clubs are for the casual fan. There will be an annual fee from what I understand. The club will give you access to hard to find, exclusive merchandise as well as some discounts I believe.

They also allude to the Disney Vault so I'm hoping there will be access to media that has long been unavailable.

The 23 refers to the year 1923, when the Walt Disney Co. was established.

That sounds great! We've long been discussing on this board how we might be able to pay-for-perks more than you currently can; sounds like this might be a test run!

Thanks Imagineer awesome

Nobody likes to think it, especially me, but behind all the magic and fun, it is a business. And the way things are going, you gotta give it to any company that can keep rolling.

It seems to be a "club" that you can join. Part of being in the club is that you get a quarterly magazine, as well as discounts to Disney gatherings (seems Disney's having it's own official "Mouse Fest" for the first time).

Sounds like fun!

I wonder if this has anything with the OTHER "Mouse Fest" getting cancelled? I always thought their reasons in their official announcement was a bit flakey at best.

I was thinking the same thing. Did Disney just "take over" mouse fest? Are all the folks who ran it now on the payroll? OR did they just get wind that this was happening and cancel...

Or something else completely un-conspiratorial and boring.

If you read their press release, they basically said "this thing is TOO successful, and requires too much work and nobody wants to do it so we're rethinking it".

I used to plan meetings and conventions, and when I read this I thought something was rotten in Denmark. When you're drawing those crowds, you don't stop. IF you are serious and think your event has a future, you rethink, restructure and don't lose the momentum. There was all this talk about them not charging, etc. for events, but doesn't Deb Wills do travel? I would think she was making SOME money off of it, plus she has a very successful cruise that goes out parallel to the event.

Thats why if Disney is having an event, you HAVE to think they had wind of it and decided to bail while the bailing was good.

Strange, indeed.

Perhaps we should have the "WDWForGrownups Fest". clapping

That's why I'm guessing they're getting something (money, advertising, collaboration, who knows?) out of cancelling their event to make way for Disney's. I mean, they had the crowds booked already. BOOKED. Why would you call it off unless there's more to gain somewhere else?

I doubt that Disney came across with any cheese. They know by putting their name behind something they can blow a "non Disney event" out of the water. I would guess the Mouse Fest folks saw the writing on the wall.

Fear is a scary thing!! eek

But again, just my guess!

Disney is sort of the "hand that feeds" for most of the MF organizer. I doubt they'd be in a position to raise too much of a stink if Disney just says "you'll leave now and you'll like it."

I was thinking the same thing about the cancellation though MT. "Oh we can't be bothered to keep doing this popular thing because it's too popular." Why wouldn't they just charge for some things they hadn't charged for before. That would reduce the size of the event, solving one problem and increase the revenue, solving the other.

They listed that whoever was in charge didn't feel they had the time anymore to do it, or wasn't willing to put the work into it.

I wished to heck they had handed ME an event like that and asked me to analyze it to make it work. Heck, we could have set up a forum HERE and solved it! laugh

Heck, I'd probably have done it for an expense paid trip to WDW!! (probably fooey, I've done a lot of others for a lot less!!)

Something is weird about that, but of course, where things like this are concerned, the "story" we're given is rarely the whole truth. There were a lot of small fish involved in that gathering, who quickly became big fish. You never know what happens when personalities and dollars clash.
