Taking Your Pets

In Millie's Trip Report we started talking about taking your pets and I thought it was worth its own topic. What do you guys think about taking your pets along? We're always torn on whether getting to see us more often offsets the stress of traveling and being away from home. I also think it makes a big difference whether you have cats or dogs. Have you ever considered taking your pets?

We didn't go to see them as often as we thought we would. We decided that since they really have no sense of time, they don't know how long it's been since they've seen us. We went twice during the week, I think it was better to not go everyday and get them all excited.

What I did like, though, was having them nearby in case there was any kind of emergency. Our one "baby" is 12 years old so you never know when something will come up...since we lived in Orlando we know of a good vet not too far from WDW. Just made me feel a little more relaxed about boarding them.

We were spoiled when we lived in NY. I had a friend who's Mother became our puppies "grandma". She loved to have them at her house and I think spoiled them worse than we did. It almost seemed like they didn't want to leave when we'd go to pick them up!

I'm hoping when the new facility opens that they'll have a separate section for old and/or small dogs. Even though neither of our dogs thinks their small...despite being in the 12-15 lb range each!! silly

I think this is probably what our concern would be -- we wouldn't be able to get over there as often as we'd want to. Question -- I always thought you had to visit the animals every day to walk them. Is that not a rule anymore? Thanks for sharing your knowledge of this!

I know that at some of the Kennels you do have to walk them yourselves but the daily rate is a little cheaper...I can't remember which ones but the info on Allears.net is correct. We opted for the kennel that provides the feeding and walking and then added on the extra walk so that they'd get 3 walks a day like they do at home.

From speaking with the manager at MK the new facility sounds like it's going to be really nice. Definitely state of the art, webcams, doggie suites, doggie TV. Of course this will all come at a price! I hope they do still offer a discount for resort guests at least...

They need to make a resort where you can keep your pets with you. The Animal Lodge maybe.
