Time for the OFFICIAL WDWFG-LIFL-You-Guys-Get-To-Help-Plan-Thread

Okay boys and girls, the time has come. I have done my research and have most of my decisions made but have a few left up in the air. I'm going to give a quick run-down, to hopefully give you guys some ammo then we'll get into specifics.

We're going from Dec 4th - 12th, staying at Kidani Village. We will be using the DDP, we will not be renting a car this time. Part of the emphasis is on relaxation and a more leisurely pace. With eight days in the world, we are looking forward to a few non-park days. We have six park days left on our PH passes, with all ten Water Parks and More visits left. We will be attending MVMCP for the first time. Ideally, I would like to use just three park days so we can have enough left for another week trip. With the 'private party' at MK, you can get in three hours early at 4pm and have plenty of time to do and see everything. I'm not going to push that (only using three park days) though, since I don't want to rush any of our time in the parks.

The first things I would like you guys' help with are:

Activities - some have been decided (like Cirque du Soleil), but other interests are horseback riding and carriage ride at FW, scuba diving, FW Segway tour, and bass fishing. The bass fishing is not cheap, but I would look to contact other couples or families that will be at the World at the same time to split the cost of the boat. Would still consider it otherwise, but it would be more fun with more people anyway. I figure that would be quite fun and relaxing. Neither DW nor I are avid fishermen but do enjoy the outdoors and outdoor activities. Anyone ever gone out on one of the guided fishing excursions? From what I've read people really love them, curious if any of my fellow grownups have done it or something similar.

Dining - one of my pending issues is how many signature restaurants to visit. Value is a prime consideration for me - note VALUE, not necessarily COST. Since signature restaurants cost two DDP credits, they do not seem to be a very good value at all. The prices are only slightly more expensive than some of the nicer non-signature restaurants, and you still only get one entree and dessert right? Doesn't seem like a very good value to effectively pay twice as much for something that costs about the same. Speaking of cost, I'm planning some breakfasts that will be paid with cash because they are cheaper and it makes more (financial) sense not to use DDP credits. I'm somewhat disinclined to experiment with a signature restaurant we haven't been to and pay cash. All that said, we have a gratis Narcoosee's meal and would like to visit at least one more signature restaurant. I am considering California Grille w/ Wishes and Jiko, while the Hoop Dee Doo review I've decided is a must.

Other restaurants we plan to visit are Le Cellier, Boma (breakfast and dinner), Crystal Palace breakfast (our first character meal - I hear the food's great too. Will make the pre-opening reservation), the Earl, and maybe Wolfgang Puck Express. I have a few others on my list, but those are the most interesting ones to me.

So, please give me your thoughts.

I think the California Grille is a must do. The food in simply incredible and the view is amazing. Our first visit there still stands out as one of my most magical experiences in Disney.
Now that makes me wonder if there is a thread on here about our most magical experiences. Off to check that out.

On signature dining I would give Citricos the highest marks on food but California Grill the highest overall marks when you include the experience. Jiko is wonderful but I think the prices make it pretty bad value for two credits. You might consider just using your TS credits elsewhere and paying for Jiko out of pocket.

Does DW like bass fishing? I'd rather do something with a bit more pixie dust, but if you're both big into fishing that could be an interesting experience. Have you booked any dining yet? How close are you getting to your 190 day window. Le Cellier is great on value, but you'll have to hit it on the first day you can book probably.

I'll be back with more. I haven't gotten to plan my own trip for so long that it will be great to help with yours!

LIFL, THANK YOU for letting us participate!! Awesome!!

I am 100% behind your restaurant decisions for two credits -- Cali Grill is a great one to use the DDP for, as is Hoop dee doo. Jiko is my favorite restaurant, hands down, so if the ONLY way to do it is with DDP, I'd say do it. Agreed that paying out of pocket might make sense for that one, though, if it's possible to do so.

As for horseback riding, if either of you have ever ridden a horse before, it's not worth it. (Probably not worth it even if you haven't ridden a horse before.) It's essentially a train of people on horses going very VERY slowly through the FW woods. Bor-ING. Not worth the money.

Go parasailing instead!!!

Thank you for your prompt responses. The big day is even sooner than I thought. I was thinking I had until the beginning of next week but nope, I only have three days left until the first ADR needs to be booked.

Have any of you ever used Disney's itinerary planner? I normally work up my own, but I'm wondering if it would be worth the effort to use theirs.

edit: I have updated the never-ending trip report:) Whenever I do finally finish it, I will create another abridged thread so it can be more easily read and maybe add some more pictures.

Thanks for your insight Bali! DW has ridden horses a good bit. She used to work with disabled children providing therapy via horses. I have not so much as touched one (spare maybe a pony for a photo op as a toddler).

I have never done Disney fishing or signature dining as I am a picky eater...just pass me the chicken fingers....however, Crystal Palace does have a wonderful breakfast and getting into the park before it opens always gives you a fantastic castle view photo and Wolfgang Puck Express was one of my absolute faves. Great food and dessert!

Which itinerary planner are you referring to? Unless you're talking about the concierge service, I'm not familiar with it.

I've played around with the itineraries before, but, like a lot of the Disney "tools," they're better suited for newbies. For people who are veterans at Disney planning, they're more fluff than anything.

let me know your experience!

Yeah, I said the same thing to DW admin. Didn't look like there was much to it, but having not used it I wasn't sure. Thank you for confirming my suspicion mickey

Yeah, you do even more research than most of us. I think you should be doing itineraries for Disney, not the other way round. laugh

Back on the original topic:

Have you considered the Epcot Segway tour vs. the Fort Wilderness one? I think that would have more to see and be a more memorable experience, but maybe I'm just underestimating FW.

I have Brad, and may well go that route. Was just looking for something wilderness-y.

I've got my ADR's through Tuesday and have most of the rest all figured out. Called reservations first thing at 190 days (180 + 10) because I had some questions in addition to the reservations for the first day. Good thing I planned ahead and was already logged in and looking at the reservations website because the CM I talked to (after holding 15-plus minutes) was not helpful at all. She informed me that I could not make any of my ADR's until June 7th (180) and just repeated her canned response when I inquired about this. I said it was supposed to be 180 + 10 for Disney resort guests, and pointed out that I could make reservations online. Her response was basically, "Then maybe you should do that". 'Thanks, you've been real helpful'. Didn't say it like that, but I wanted to. Is that a rule that you can only make them at 190 days online? If so, shouldn't a RESERVATIONS agent be apprised of that?

So far we've got Crystal Palace breakfast (before MK opens), California Grille for Wishes, Boma breakfast, Narcoosee's dinner, and 50's Prime Time while we're at HS. Waiting for the window to book Boma dinner, HDDR, Le Cellier, and something close to MK. What are your votes for a dinner in the neighborhood of MK? I'm leaning towards the Plaza, but would consider Wave or one of the other resort restaurants nearby. Looks like all of our table service credits are already accounted for, which is why the Plaza is so appealing. I haven't had better food inside MK, and if paying cash it's a great value (for park fare).

Given your good experiences with the Plaza that's a pretty good option. The Wave is not bad, but I think it's a bit pricey, so not the best choice for paying cash. Liberty Tree Tavern is fun, but I prefer it for lunch vs. dinner. Ohana for dinner might be an option as it's a very different experience from breakfast there.

I would also suggest Kona Cafe for dinner. I've never heard a bad review, and it would be less expensive than 'Ohana.

The plaza would give you the opportunity to stay in the park, though, which might be better in the interest of time.

Can't believe that CM said that "maybe you should book online then." Unbelievable!

Thank you. You guys have been very helpful thus far. Got Boma for dinner this morning. Tomorrow morning I'll be booking something in the neighborhood of MK. Hadn't thought about Ohana and Kona cafe. Those are intriguing options.

Even just riding the monorail it can feel like a big waste of time to go all the way out of the park and then come all the way back. I would seriously consider Kona or Ohana. They seem like the best non-park options. I've only had Kona for breakfast, but my experiences were good.

Also, given how early you're booking you can probably get Ohana for a fireworks show, which I think is definitely a worthwhile experience.

Decided on Ohana for dinner. Going to the Christmas party that night, so booked an early dinner. Had some interesting experiences with the reservations system. Yesterday morning when I logged in, a few minutes before 0700, the day at 190 was already available. Made me wonder how long before 0700 that day would be available. This morning I checked several hours before seven and it was indeed available. For whatever reason, though, it returned an error when trying to make the reservation. I tried several times, reloading the page and even logging out and back in. Then, it would only show 180 days where even the days where I have already made reservations would not show. I gave up after fifteen or twenty minutes of trying and went to sleep for a few hours. When I did log back in after 0700 to make my reservation, there were none available the first half of the night. They were ALL taken already - at 190 days! So, I used a little trick the pros use. If your reservation for say a party of two is unavailable, search for a party of three or four. I searched for a party of three, and BINGO, got it.

I think Ohana is a good choice. The service has been up and down but it's worth doing at least once. We still go just about every trip. We used to do it 1+ every trip.

So, the plans are all done and boy does it feel nice. Planned the park days based on numerous factors including crowd forecasts (including historical data) - giving me a good idea what the crowd levels will be like at the time of year/week/even time of day, getting the most out of EMH, total time available in each park, etc. Tours are booked for non-park days since park admission is not required for those I've chosen. ADR times and locations were planned to integrate as seamlessly as possible with the aforementioned plans.

I've mentioned some of the plans before, but now that they're cemented:

Crystal Palace - breakfast prior to rope drop

50's Prime Time Cafe - dinner

California Grille - dinner and regular Wishes

Narcoossee's - dinner

Boma - breakfast

Boma - dinner (not the same day)

Ohana - dinner

Le Cellier - dinner

Hoop Dee Doo Review - after the Segway Tour

Boma - breakfast before begrudgingly making our departure

Epcot Seas Aqua Tour

Wilderness Back Trail Adventure Segway Tour - though both are very highly regarded by those who have done them, those who have done both seem to prefer this one to the World Showcase Segway Tour.

Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party
- on a non-park day, will see Holiday Wishes

Cirque Du Soleil - La Nouba

There are a few activities we'll play by ear but plan on including Earl of Sandwich, FW carriage/sleigh ride, Behind the Seeds tour, Earl of Sandwich, AKV activities, visiting the deluxe resorts to see the different Christmas decorations, and Earl of Sandwich.

Can't wait! yay

Those are AWESOME plans! I so want to go on your trip with you!! Boma is a great choice while you're at Kidani -- I think that restaurant is such a gem.

I also can't wait to hear about your Aqua Seas Tour, the Fort Wilderness Segway adventure, and La Nouba!!

I hope you like 'Ohana, too. That's a very relaxing restaurant to me, and it should be a great beginning to a wonderful holiday-filled evening.

You guys are going to have the trip of a lifetime.

Thank you, Annie. Our last trip was supposed to be 'the big one', but I think this may well surpass that one. Whoops sarcastic clapping

I forgot to mention; the other day when I was having a nice conversation with a tour CM I mentioned this was an anniversary trip even though our anniversary is in September. I kind of felt dishonest since it is not our anniversary date. She laughed and said people routinely come for their given celebration six months from the actual date. Made me feel a lot better about it biggrin

Me too! It's particularly great for breakfast so you can get up just a wee bit later!

I'm excited about your trip LifeIsForLiving. I feel like there are quite a few restaurants on there you haven't been to before. Am I remembering correctly?

You've got an impressive amount of stuff for an 8 night trip. From your trip report it seems like you guys like to be very active on your trips. I'll be really interested to hear how you like Cirque. We think we'd love it, but we never seem to go ahead and buy tickets.
