The trip report before the pre-trip report

So here I am sitting just a little over a month before the 180 mark. I have tons running thru my head and if I don't stay off this site and all the others, I may just add a couple more days on to our trip. waiting

Pre Pre-Trip Report!

So my big plans for my 40th have always been a trip back to Italy. I went in 1995 and fell totally and completely in love with it. In 2011 the hubby and I went to Vegas, on the way there I was fine, the flight back however, EVERYTHING changed. I am now terrified to get on a plane and have turned down several trips since then. My dear friend wants me to go to Sicily with her this summer and I have also turned that trip down which makes me sad on a daily basis sad . Luckily I have a friend with a Cirrus whom I am perfectly fine flying with and he is trying to help me overcome my fears.

Enough of how crazy I am and on to my 40th. Since I couldn't do Italy, the next best thing in my head is WDW. All my friends think I am a little crazy but for me it is perfect. My hubby and I are big foodies and love to try new things so F & W is just perfect for us. Add being able to go kid free and it's kinda like an early anniversary trip for us too.

So far plans are as follows. I have a dear friend Kristy (the one I spent two weeks in Italy with in 1995) who is now a certified Disney TA. She has booked this trip and our 2015 cruise. The two of us have giggled and planned like crazy. The hubby is pretty much leaving things up to me since it is my Bday.

We will be driving down Saturday and staying off property so that he can play golf. We will also be having dinner at 4 Rivers Smoke House and cup cakes from their Sweet Shop. Amazing food you should try if you get the chance!

We check into Pop Century on Sunday. We will probably hit Downtown Disney on Sunday for shopping and dinner. Paradiso 37 is on my radar because of the corn alone. And hopefully a little "non-competitive and friendly" putt putt at Fantasia or Fairways.

Then the fun begins!!!

Monday Epcot! I plan on FP'ing Mission Space (we have never done this because of Blondie), Soarin' and Test Track. We have to hit hit Spaceship Earth because no trip is complete without it. I am also wanting to do the Behind the Seeds tour at The Land. Then on to the FOOD and WINE! I am beyond thrilled about this as I love to try different things from around the globe. Even with all the booths we are going to be having lunch at Via Napoli, I can't help it, I love pizza! The rest of the day will be spent strolling from Mexico to Canada!

Tuesday MK FP Peter Pan's Flight, Dwarf Train and Buzz Lightyear Other than really checking out Fantasy Land (it had JUST opened last time we went and was packed) and catching the new parade, it's going to be a day of strolling, checking the app for wait times, getting cake cups at Cheshire Cafe and of course touching the mosaic slipper in the castle (what a cool idea!) I am also going to shoot for Rope Drop this day, something we have never done.

Wednesday AK FP Safari, Everest and Dinosaur I am sure we will wait for Everest a couple times, it's by far our favorite ride at WDW. Check out the Nemo show and really take some time around the tree of life looking at all the carvings. Blondie is too active to do that! I plan on making it a full day with a stop at Dawa Bar for adult beverages and relaxation. Still deciding on the lunch spot here... Since this park closes early, this will be the night we eat out of the bubble, well kinda, we order in from my all time favorite pizza spot Giordano's! All the great food and restaurants in WDW and I am considering this one my BDay dinner!!! More putt putt this night too!

Thursday back to Epcot - of course to eat what we missed the first day! We are wanting to do the Parisian Breakfast that is offered during F & W and hopefully get it booked for this day. I love going over early and strolling before World Showcase opens. This will just be a leisurely day of walking/eating/drinking Smile I may FP something this day but would rather just relax and take things as they come.

Friday HS - FP Tower of Terror, Rockin Roller Coaster and Toy Story - I also plan on making this a full day We didn't get to stay long at HS last trip because of car issues so I want to do it all. Lunch at Brown Derby, drinks at Tune In Lounge and just watch the app for wait times. Back to the room after to rest rest rest for the 6 hour drive home in the morning!

I know AK & HS are hard "full day" parks but without the kiddo, we can take our time, hit ALL the shops, sit and people watch and all that jazz. I am not a park hopper, once I get there, I like to stay.

Here is where I am stuck... Food for all the parks except Epcot. I'm pretty set on Brown Derby for HS but the others are still up in the air. Our dinner has now been narrowed down to California Grill, Kimonos or Kona Cafe. (ok, my sushi dinner....) I also plan on hitting a few lounges for "signature drinks! Smile

So here is my question....

Your favorites in HS, AK and MK for lunch and/or dinner

Whew, I have more planned than I thought!!! If I'm missing anything, please chime in!

Our favourite in AK is Yak & Yeti - it's one of our "must do" stops each trip. Great food and adult beverages. biggrin

Sounds great. For your first day at Epcot, you won't be able to get FP for both Soarin' and Test Track as they are both tier one attractions. You can only pick one. This may also be the case for Rock 'N Roller Coaster and Toy Story. I can't remember if RNR is a tier one or not.

Two of the four major parks - Epcot and DHS, if I recall correctly - have a "one from column A, two from column B" FastPass+ rule that doesn't permit you to make FP+ reservations for more than one headliner attraction per day. I'm not sure what qualifies without actually getting into the system and making reservations, but I think you won't be able to FP+ Test Track and Soarin' on the same day at Epcot, and I think you can't do Toy Story and Tower of Terror on the same day at DHS.

Now, as for my lunch and dinner favorites.

I'm not a big fan of any DHS restaurant. I know people rave about the Brown Derby and 50s Prime Time, but I just don't see much on the menu that really appeals to me. We have eaten at Sci-Fi Dine In, and it's fun, but the food is just average. So if it were me, I'd get a counter service lunch at ABC Commissary (not everyone's favorite, but I like their Asian salad) and then park hop to Epcot for dinner, or go to one of the Epcot resort restaurants.

At AK, we've had lunch at Yak and Yeti counter service and at Tusker House and have reservations for Yak and Yeti table service on our next trip. I liked Tusker House, but if it were me I'd go back to Yak and Yeti counter service, or try Flame Tree BBQ (never eaten there but I like the menu), and then go to one of AK Lodge's restaurants for dinner.

We have never eaten at any table service restaurant at MK. For counter service, we like Columbia Harbor House, and hubby recommends both Casey's and Sleepy Hollow as well. Someday we'll try Liberty Tree Tavern, but if I were making these plans I'd leave MK and go to one of the nearby resort restaurants for dinner.

I believe this is correct. For some reason RnR is tier 2 while all other "thrill rides" are tier 1. Odd.

For MK, HS, and AK, we do mostly counter service. for TS, I've eaten at Cinderella's Royal Table, Tony's Town Square, Hollywood Brown Derby, 50's Prime Time, and Sci-Fi Dine-In. None of the places I've eaten at HS are on my "must-go-back-to" list. Cinderella's was nice, but I haven't eaten there in over a decade, so I really have no idea what it's like now. Of the lot, Tony's is my favorite. It gets terrible reviews, but I like the theming (Lady & the Tramp) and the pistachio creme brulee is probably my favorite creme brulee ever. DH really liked their green apple sorbet also.

Our favorite Counter service spots are ABC Commissary at DHS; Columbia Harbor House, Pecos Bills, and Be Our Guest at MK; and Flame Tree BBQ at AK.

JanJ - "adult beverages" are very important to me on this trip. There are so many special drinks my head is spinning (and will be after drinking them all) I normally will have a glass of wine if Blondie is with us and that is it. We are playing a whole new ballgame this trip! wink

I've done Cinderella's Table with Blondie, I don't think the hubby would like dinner with more than one princess (me lol). We loved the lunch we had there but I think I will wait on the kiddo to do that again.

alicemouse, you had me at pistachio!!!!!

I saw Y&Y a couple times so I think that is my choice thus far. Now I need to get to work on MK biggrin Does the planning ever end.

Fantastic plan JMed one thing to bear in mind for F&W festival is it is VERY difficult to eat meals and snack at the same time!!! we had DDP last year and I had my list of things to try at booths and it took 2 whole weeks of nearly daily visits to EPCOT and knocking things off my list to try and complete this and I consider myself to be a good eater and usually you cant fill me!!!!

Then again I'm doing exactly the same this year!!!!

Also with food for each park I'd go with MK - be our guest (lunch) not sure on dinner, EPCOT sunshine seasons is our fav, HS not keen on the QS options but 50's prime time was fantastic last year, AK - restaurantosaurus but trying Yak and yeti this year because of the amazing comments on here

RnR is tier 1 and TOT is tier 2.

I'm not sure how I am feeling about this new FP system. How is it working for any of you who have tried it??? We will be there during the week, you think wait times will be bad??? We've always been on weekend trips.

You are going in October so the crowds shouldn't be that bad. Kids are back in school etc. Now weekends at F&W festival will be crazy because the locals will attend so I would go during the week. I was there at the end of Sept last year at the F&W and it was not too bad.

Thanks, Mr. Hub. I don't ride Rock'n Roller Coaster or Tower of Terror, so knowing which was considered a headliner attraction wasn't terribly important for me.

We are in the parks Mon-Fri - I was thinking Fri would be the worst... Fingers crossed for all good days! Thanks everyone!

Well, here it is, I hit the 180 day mark and made some ADRs... Plans have changed a little. We added a day so that we qualify for the free dining. This means an extra day woo hoo!!!!! awesome

Still haven't decided on the "big" dinner yet. More than likely the CG will win. I really want BOG (B&TB is my favorite Disney movie of all time). So far we have the following

Tokyo Dining
Kona Cafe
Yak and Yeti
Sanaa
Via Napoli
Hollywood Brown Derby

knowing me, I will change my mind several times between now and then. Yes, we have dinner reservations during food and wine. But with the extra day added on, I now get 3 days at Epcot so I am going to pace myself. They are late dinners so we have time to walk off all the days treats!!!

I also have a list of CS and lounges with snacks/signature drinks to try!

I did read some sad news, the Parisian Breakfast that I REALLY wanted to do is only offered on Saturday mornings. Unfortunately, it is not in my cards to go this year... waiting

And have I mentioned my excitement over Boyz II Men? A couple days before the list was sent out, they were on the Howard Stern show celebrating Billy Joel's bday, the hubby and I were talking about how much we liked them back in the day and now, we get to see them!!! YAY
