@#$% Viruses - What Do You Do For Relief?

I took that phrase from salty Lizzy B.! YAY SALTY LIZZY B.!

But I ain't talking computers.... Stare

My office is a cesspool of @#$% germs.

Despite all my efforts to remain germ-free through the final 30 days, I've gotten a pre-trip virus. Boo!! Started Saturday with the sore thoat and headache. I now sound like Froggy from the Little Rascals. (I know, that dates me. Go ahead, Goggle it. I'll wait here... waiting)

With 16 days left until The Big Trip, I'm determined to a.) get rid of it and b.) NOT give it to Joe!

I called my doctor because I can never really tell the difference between a cold, allergies and a virus. She says it sounds like a virus and recommended Sudafed or Allegra, and if it starts getting worse over the next few days come on in and get some high-powered stuff.

Of course, I've been scouring the internet for mircale cures (despite the medical opinion that there is no cure, it has to run it's course. I WANT A CURE!)

No fever or aches, just the stuffy runny nose kinda stuff. I've gone the Sudafed route for now.

Any suggestions on how to speed this thing along or at least get some further relief? I'm not above calling in an exorcist, so do keep that in mind laugh

I had a viral sinus thing last month. I almost never get colds and such but this one was the pits. Good news though...it only lasted about 3 days. For those three days I could not breathe out of my nose at all. The pressure under and around my eyes was also terrible. It started on a Wed. Wed and Thur I was miserable but felt a good deal better by Friday. And I felt well enough to go out to dinner with friends over the weekend. So here is hoping yours will be as quick moving as mine was. Also, Mr Hub never did get it from me.
I did not take anything for it though. I did take Advil which helped a little with the sinus pressure.

whenever I get sick, I always go get Vitamin C supplements and take them religiously until I'm better. My boyfriend claims its way more Vitamin C than I need, but I tell him it can't hurt because pre-Vitamin C when I got sick, I would be sick forever. But when I take them it seems to hurry the cold along.

Look on the bright side, better you have it and feel terrible now than to get it when you are there. As far as not sharing it with Joe, you need to either give it to him quick or but him in a bubble till you leave.

So sorry to hear that you're feeling ill! I agreed with lots and lots of Vitamin C, I also usually add Echinacea, both help boost immunity. Lots and lots of water, the better hydrated you are, the better your body's own defenses will be able to work. Also try and get a little extra sleep if you can, because we heal better when our body doesn't have to worry about doing anything else.

As far as not spreading the bug, you should both be washing your hands a LOT and I usually go around the house any Lysol any common surfaces every day to cut down on the spread i.e. light switches, door knobs, phones, the TV remote and such. Wash the sheets & pillowcases in super hot water too.

Most of all, feel better soon!

I got really sick about a week before a vacation last year. This is what I did:

-lived at Jamba Juice. If you have one by you go get their coldbuster with extra immunity. It tastes DELICIOUS! and it's packed with vitamin c and superfruits.

-Neti-pot. If you are stuffed up use it to clear the nasal passages. It's weird and gross at first but trust me, you'll feel a 100x better after a day or 2.

-sleep. Don't be afraid of naps. Sleep helps reset our body.

-eat! eat! eat! I'm not talking about junk food, but when you get sick a lot of people lose their appetite. Make sure you continue to eat and of course hydrate yourself.

Thanks for all the tips! So far we're going with Sudafed, rest & sleep, Vitamin C, lots of water/liquids and the neti pot crossfingers Oh, and Lysol, Purell and disinfecting wipe thingies on EVERYTHING.

Plan B is tequila and a hammer.... laugh

Hope you feel better soon and before your trip and I hope Joe doesn't get it...Colds like that suck cause you just have to let them run their course....I get them at least once a month during the winter months

Ok - this will sound silly or odd or even gross . . . But keep you nose "hydrated" or moist. Saline spray or even a bit of Vaseline on the inside. Those nasty viruses Love dry and irritated noses. It will help ease the discomfort during, but can help keep the Icks away...

Oh and Zicam. It tastes horrible, but helps cut the duration.

Zicam! Love that stuff. I'm actually taking it right now, because i felt a sore throat and cold coming on. I also load up on vitamin C before the trip. I've had a bad sinus infection during a trip once and never again!

Hope you feel better in time for your trip!

Thanks Kristen! I think I am starting to turn this around. No worse, and I sounds less like Froggy and closer to me today clapping
