Walt Disney documentary to air on PBS..

http://www.doctordisney.com/2014/07/23/walt-disney-premiere-pbs-fall-2015/

Just saw this article that a new American Experience documentary about The Man himself is set for production and will air in... wait for it... Fall of 2015 waiting

As a history/Disney buff, I'm really excited for this though!

Quote:
BEVERLY HILLS, CA; July 22, 2014 " At the semi-annual Television Critics Association conference today, PBS and AMERICAN EXPERIENCE announced that "Walt Disney," a new four-hour, two-night film that explores the life and legacy of one of America's most enduring and influential storytellers, will premiere in fall 2015.
Directed and produced by Sarah Colt ("Henry Ford," "RFK") and written by Mark Zwonitzer ("JFK," "Triangle Fire"), the film features rare archival footage from the Disney vaults, scenes from some of his greatest films, and includes interviews with animators and artists who worked on Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and Imagineers who helped design Disneyland.

That's ages from now! Sometimes I wish that Disney would surprise us with these sorts of things the way they did with the Tangled bathrooms in Fantasyland. (At least, that was a surprise to me--I didn't know they were theming the new restrooms until a friend who was in the park when they opened posted a pic of them on Facebook.) It would be fun if they pulled more surprises, the way that parent's do when they surprise their kids with trips to Disney. Like make an announcement that "Avatar land is coming to AK--tomorrow! We've been working on it for two years behind the scenes and now it's here!!"

Don't get me wrong, I'm excited about and will certainly watch this documentary, but sometimes it's harder to wait for new Disney releases than it is to wait for Christmas!

rolling Hahahaha can you imagine how great that would be if they did that.. A surprise park renovation would probably put people into total panic mode but the feeling of the surprise would be well worth it.

I feel like for Avatar land its just so far in the future I don't even think about it. I wish they could have announced it maybe with like a year to go? Three years is soooo far away!

Does anyone know how anyone in the UK could watch it or if it's on any websites?

A quick search of the website gave me this info: Sky channel 534 and on Virgin Media 276. However, I do not know if they show exactly what is being shown here or if there is a lapse.

There'll be a gap on getting this to the UK arm of PBS I would imagine...however, on the PBS site, there are a few videos including the first 9 minutes of the show. It looks very good, and without the stern eyes of the corporation, this looks like it'll be a proper documentary and not just about the good side that we all know.

I mananged to stay awake for the whole thing, which pretty much amazed me! I really enjoyed the first half. I love how there is no sugarcoating of the facts. People have many sides and Walt was no different.

I set the DVD recorder just in case, but I made it home in time! yay

I very much enjoyed the first half and I picked up a few tidbits that I hadn't heard before. Looking forward to the conclusion tonight!

I basically missed the second half. I have it recorded, but my bestie called with a work-related crisis just as it started and I was on the phone "talking her off the ledge" for almost two hours sad Tonight was just as crazy. Hoping to finally get to see the second half tomorrow!

I watched both nights. I have to say that I have never been interested in Walt Disney, the man. I've never even watched One Man's Dream because I had no interest. I didn't know 95% of what was in this documentary, and I watched mainly because there was nothing to watch in our Hulu queue.

That being said, I found it very interesting and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I appreciated that facts weren't sugar coated, or omitted entirely, if they didn't paint Walt in a flattering light. I'm actually surprised at how much I enjoyed it!

I'm going to have a watch of these over the next couple of nights...what I've seen so far leads me to believe it will probably be the definitive biography of the great man and better than the official biography in different ways.

I really loved this documentary. I did fall asleep for the last 10 minutes of the last night. I fought really hard, but my tiredness won.

Watched the first 30-40 minutes so far and it's pretty good. There's some stuff I didn't know which is good but so far, so good.

Ok, have had a chance to view this and it's very detailed and thankfully only goes up to his passing rather than trying to tag a bit on about his legacy.

A little bit about the parks, a lot about the studio and his struggles with unions but glosses over the loss of Oswald which was a shame. There wasn't very much on his setting up of CalArts (I might have dozed off during bits of it) but Walt was well known for sending his artists back to school to become better. Whilst they do a good job not to try and present his legacy, the show seems to just stop...almost as suddenly as his passing was!

Overall, a good show - not sugarcoated or whitewashed in any way. It does present a lot of what people might know but sprinkles little tidbits of info no one knew. A shame none of the larger family got involved beyond Ron Miller, but that might be expected given the internal wranglings between members of the Disney family in recent times.
