Weeki Wachee Springs

Seriously, this place is still open!

When I was a little girl traveling to Florida I would always beg my parents to take me to Weeki Wachee Springs. I wanted to see the mermaids, no, I wanted to be a mermaid. As an adult it fell off my Disney loving radar, until a couple of weeks ago when I was watching an episode of The Glades. Guess what!? Weeki Wachee Springs is still open and there are still mermaids! How wonderful!

Do you love Mermaids? Have you ever been to Weeki Wachee Springs?

I remember TV ads for some product (ages and ages ago) that featured the Weeki Wachee mermaids. I don't remember what the product was, and I had no idea the place was still out there.

My mother informs me that we went there during our first trip to WDW, way back when I was 2 years old. I don't remember a thing about it, but I imagine I must have loved it, because I've always been fond of mermaids...

I was thereabout 40 years ago, and only remember a few things about it. But one of my neighbors just retired, and moved not far from there. It seems him, and his wife are spending a lot of time there (judging by the multitude of pics he's posted..lol)

My son, age 4.5 keeps telling me he wants to see a mermaid; we may have to do a day trip there.

Weeki Wachi is great, however, I can't speak to the mermaids. We took kayaks and there is lots of fun on the river. There's lots of rope swings around the river and even in off-season you will find a manatee or two, just the sweetest creatures you will ever meet. I also like Homossassa springs, which I believe is in the same area. Lots of springs in that area that you can have a ton of fun in a kayak.

I think it's a fact that Magic Kingdom (and Disney World as a whole) is the most magical place on earth. I absolutely love Disney World, and everything about it. I hope to one day become a sports reporter. When you wish upon a star!

I have never heard of Weeki Wachee Springs but I remember Cypress Gardens. Actually I saw postcards of the all the "Belles" with their parasols sitting under the Cypress trees. My parents and grandparents went many, many moons ago.

Cypress Gardens is now Legoland. cool We haven't been there but I've heard it's great for little ones. Mine are big ones now that my little one just turned 13 last week, so I have 3 teenagers now sarcastic ...not so much for Legoland, go figure! Mike and I may go check it out, we get in free since we are teachers.

LoL... me too, my "little one" is 13 now, the two others 18 & 19. We've decided to pass on Legoland. I still think though that I might like to go see the mermaids. I can't help but think that if I had grown up in central Florida I would have wanted to be one when I was a little girl on the swim team.
