What Disney resort is best for a convention or conference?

Any thoughts on what resort you'd pick to hold a convention or conference in? Would off-site be better, and, if so, where?

I don't know if I could do one on-site, I feel like I would never do the convention or conference because there is too much of the Disney pull

Coronado Springs is supposed to be the resort most groups use for conferences on-property. To be honest, that's part of why we are reluctant to stay there. I am sure it's nice, but I've ready alot of forum posts about people who feel more like they are a conference (because of the people in business attire) than at Disney. From allears.net:

[ul][li]This
is Disney's first moderately priced convention hotel. There
is a 95,000-square-foot convention center that includes a 60,214
square-foot. ballroom, as well as a full-service business
center
. The ballroom can accommodate 5,000 for a sit-down
dinner or 6,500 meeting-style seats. There is also a 20,000 square-
foot Junior Ballroom.

The only one I have had any experience with is Coronado Springs Resort. The Fl. Elks have their state convention there. I think they have had 4 so far and like it so much they contracted for some more years.

Coranado..although I think Contemporary has a nice convention center.

Personally attending a conference at Disney would be awesome. Planning a conference at Disney might not be so much fun.

It also depends on how deep the attendees pockets are.

Agreed. I think they get some discounts, but having your conference at Yacht Club or Grand Floridian has to be more expensive than having it at Coronado.

I've stayed at Coronado during conferences, and honestly it just makes me feel more lucky to be on vacation instead of AT the conference laugh Looking at all the people in business attire just reminds me that I can relax and not worry about work.

However, if I were planning a conference at WDW (unlimited budget, of course) I think I'd go for Contemporary. The conference facilities are so close to the hotel and easy to get to, plus you have VERY easy access to two parks during "breaks."

I think it is well to define the difference between a conference and a convention. A conference is most often related to some sort of business meeting. ergo expense accounts where as a convention is most often some kind of organization in which the officers expenses are paid but every one else has to come up with their own coins. That would make a difference,I would imagine, in where the best deal would chosen.

I've never actually thought about it! Thanks, Joe mickey Makes sense now that Coronado might be the obvious choice for a Convention.

I went to a few conventions in the contemporary.
Seems to be a favorite for doctors conventions.
I'm not a doctor, I'm a respiratory therapist but sometimes I go to medical conferences there.

I should definitely get into a career that has conferences at the Contemporary.

Nah. They make you stay in a room listening to boring lectures instead of enjoying the parks.
It's much more fun not to mix business with pleasure even though I do find myself doing that alot.
At least that way it's a tax deductible vacation. biggrin

I used to always ditch the events, even if it wasn't a fun town, much less if it was Disney World.

Anybody wanna go and listen to pulmonary lectures?

I'm hoping I can sneak out and sneak back in without being noticed so I can play a little.
