What happens when you don't plan

My friend Hannah is a WDW fan and a nail technician. She often talks to her clients about her trips to WDW and why she loves it. Recently one of her clients had come back from visiting WDW and Hannah asked if she had enjoyed it. The lady replied she didn't see what all the fuss was about. So Hannah, knowing that the lady loved animals, asked if she had enjoyed AK and particularly the safari ride. The lady replied 'What safari'. She had been to AK and completely missed KS, didn't even know it existed Shock I'd love to know what other attractions she had completely missed. No surprise then that she didn't understand what the fuss was about!!!

Not everyone has to have OCDPD (obsessive compulsive Disney planning disorder Smile ) but a little homework can make a difference.

Heck all you have to do is look at one often maps of the parks to see the attractions. Dd she not even get a map going in, did she even go to AK? I have heard people talk once in a while that think MK & EPCOT are the only parks there!

Wow, that's crazy! She must have just wandered around aimlessly all day.

Our first 2 trips (2005 & 2007) we didn't plan and we were able to hit the good rides. We enjoyed it so much that we are totally and completely addicted, and now I have OCDPD. wink

How awful that they missed so much!

I've did AK once with an over-planner it was horrible. They get so focused on the rides that they miss the other good stuff.

You have got to hit that happy sweet spot. Plan enough to know what you're doing, and leave some room for the magic.

Well put BB!

I'm still very much a newbie to all the ins and outs - but I do realized that you do have to do a little bit of homework and at least have a basic plan. I'm just so glad it's such an enjoyable topic to expand on!

It just blows the mind doesn't it? I have been plotting everything I/we will be doing at Disney on my spreadsheet.

Well, the way I see it, you should have a basic plan but it doesn't need to be precise like oh, I don't know, scheduling bathroom breaks or specific ride times because well, things can change. I think one should ultimately put greater emphasis on the things you prioritize most and do those things first and then let everything else slide. I remember reading one post and it simply said: "Failure to plan is planning to fail"

I am one of those that can freak a lot of people out as i have made about 3 dining reservations in total during 11 visits to WDW.
Both me and the DW just tend to have a vague plan but wing it depending on the bus that turns up first.
Can't imagine not spotting the safari though ...

It's surprising at many people don't do homework at all. It happens all the time that parents get fastpasses for rides for their little children and when they get to the parks, the children can't use the fastpasses because they aren't tall enough for certain rides. Many forget that AK has Rafiki's Planet Watch and the two animal trails to enjoy as well. I agree that some planning has to happen for a WDW vacation whether that means looking up rides and looking for height requirements if you have small children.
