Wilderness Lodge Pool Refurb

My travel agent just received the following email from Disney:

The Silver Creek Springs Pool at Disney's Wilderness Lodge will be closed for refurbishment 02 SEP14-30 NOV14. During this time, the leisure pool at The Villas at Disney's Wilderness Lodge will remain open. Guests will also have the opportunity to visit the Main Pool at Disney's Contemporary Resort or the Meadow Swimmin' Pool at Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground. Complimentary transportation will be provided to both of these neighboring resorts.

We'll be staying at WL from Sept 17th to Sept 22nd. We don't spend a lot of time at the pool so it's really not a big deal for us, but some folks might want to change their accommodations because of this.

King Fergus, I know you'll be staying at WL during this time.

Yup saw that on the Tikiman's FB page. So many people had changed resi's from the Poly to WL because of the construction and now they go and do this. People are having a fit!

I'm kind of bummed. We're at VWL during the pool refurb, but it's only for 3 of 10 nights. I do remember thinking that the main pool looked really neat and I was actually kind of excited about checking it out. Oh well. It's not the end of the world and I love the ambiance of WL anyway. I'm still pretty psyched about staying there--pool or no pool. King had said that he got a 40% off discount on his room there. I wonder if this pending announcement was driving that deal for our UK friends.

When we were at the WL in May the bubbling spring in the lobby was not operating and it was blocked off by potted evergreen bushes. Outside, the upper third of the "falls" was shielded from view and was without any water. The pool itself, including the slide, was in full operation.

The pool at the Villas is fairly small compared to the main pool. There's probably only 50 lounge chairs around the villa pool, while there are probably 200 around the main pool. Going to get ugly when guests start fighting over seating.

According to the Touring Plans blog Disney is also offering on free Blizzard Beach ticket to each member of your party if you would prefer that to going over to the Contemporary or Ft. Wilderness so anyone staying there during this time period may want to check into that.

I understand why they're taking it out of service at that time of year - but that's a long stretch!

Allie, did they say whether or not you have to use that Blizzard Beach ticket during the time when the WL pool is closed? We're only there for three of our 10 nights (so whatever, I'll swim when we're at BLT or Saratoga) and we have free water parks on the PAP anyway, but it would be pretty sweet to have a free Blizzard Beach pass for sometime in the future.

It didn't say Alicemouse, but it did say that they are not widely advertising the fact that this is an option, you have to ask about it in order to get it. Might be worth asking for and if it has an expiration then you just don't use it and no harm done.

Alice , I also heard on the Tikiman site that this is a rumor and they were not giving the passes to Blizzard Beach for WL, only the Poly. The Poly guests did get letters regarding this, and as far as I know, WL guests didn't.

Oh interesting. Touring Plans blog is normally pretty accurate so that surprises me. It did say that the passes for WL are not being widely promoted and are only if you specifically ask, so maybe that's why? Either way, it never hurts to ask I guess.

No your right Allie, Touring Plans is good, so I'm sure they have correct info. I haven't heard of anyone staying at WL during that time getting a letter yet. Maybe that's why they were saying its a rumor, just because a letter has not been sent out.

I got a letter today from Jose Mola at WLV and it only says that we can use the Contemporary or Fort Wilderness pools or exercise our DVC pool hopping privs.

There is a boat between WL and Contemporary that runs all day. We take it have breakfast at the Wave and than walk to MK.
