Working Remotely

For those of you that do have to work on vacations, where do you do it? In room is great for really sitting down and getting things done, but have you worked from the parks too?

I can do almost everything I need to from my iPhone, so it's not unusual for me to check my email of make a phone call from inside the parks. I feel so blessed to be able to work from anywhere, I don't think it's even a concept my parents could have wrapped their heads around. Work was work and play was play. What I have is a big mis-mash.

Would you ever consider working from inside the theme park? Has technology made it easier for you to head to Disney because you can still be in contact with your office?

Do you feel that working in the Park lessens your Disney experience?

Heck no I would not want to work while on vacation. I forget that a place called work even exist while I am there. I will not even carry my cell phone on me while I am there.

What if you couldn't get time off for vacation? Is some Disney better than no Disney?

I would really have to think about that. I so associate Disney with total us time, no work, no phone calls, no anything else. We do not even turn a tv on when we are on vacation. And trust me, I would so not be doing my job the way it should be done if I was at Disney. My mind would be on what I could be doing not on what I was doing.

I have trouble working from home on the weekends when I need to. I can't even imagine trying to focus on work in Disney!

Maybe if my job didn't involve an "office" at all it would be easier to adopt a mobile mindset. I think I'm still with you parents: work at work and play at play

I have to every once in a while. But I work from home 3 out of the 5 days out of the week anyways. Like you Kristen. I can do everything from my iPhone, but usually I have my iPad with me to, and will do it on there because its 10 inches vs. 3.5... lol. I also have my Mac in the room if I need to do any heavy internet work as well. I know last vacation our internet site went down, and spent a bit getting it online. I think that was last trip... may had been previous too... lol.

I can work remotely from home when needed but I won't do it on vacation. I bring my laptop with me to Disney but I leave the VPN token at home so I can't log in if I had to. I mentioned this on another thread. I get called quite often after hours from our data center. When I'm on vacation, I let them know so they won't call me.

Well i can't really do my work while I'm on vacation since I'm a nurse. But if I had a computer type job and I had to do work while I was there I think it would be cool to do it in the world showcase. You could say "I'm at work in France" and then a half hour later move and you could say "Now i'm working from China"...LOL...

I need to get myself an iPad. We have two in the house (my daughter's and my husband's) and they let me borrow them, but there's just something not right about working on someone else's device to me. LoL... probably just my OCD. Do you find carrying your iPad with you a bother at all? I'm not sure that I wouldn't worry about it getting broken the whole time.

For me... my iPad goes in my backpack, but I also have a nice case for it as well. Kinda like a leather notebook. Real nice. Target had 2 on clearance almost a year back, and I bought them both! About 6 months ago I opened one of them up since the other got what I call "Brookified". But I love the iPad. It goes EVERYWHERE with us. But I to Kristen would like my own... my daughter over the past 9 months has made it hers, so now I would like my own! LOL... my birthday is coming up... so I'm hoping for my "OWN" iPad now... lol

Its funny... we got the iPad we have now because we were heading to Disney (3 years ago) so the kids could be entertained while waiting in line if lines were long, or on the airplane and such. Line wise... we used it once for Toy Story Mania. My Dad held my daughter while I strapped the iPad to the back of my backpack and her, my son, and everyone else around us watched Toy Story! LOL

This is kinda what I have for my iPad. Don't have an iPad 2...

My husband has the iPad, my daughter has an iPad 2.

I tried to work this past weekend when we were at an anime convention, and it so didn't work for me LOL! Everything went haywire. I'm really hoping that things go more smoothly for me when we're in Disneyland. One of the things that works in my favor when we head to go to Disneyland is that I'll wake up at 4am every morning because of the time difference. I plan on trying to get all my work done every day before the park even opens!
