YASS (Yet Another Social Site) & runDisney & tracking apps

This is a fusion post between Doing a Disney Running Event and Facebook or Twitter...

I know a few of us here are also training for a runDisney event, so how many of you use something like DailyMile or RunKeeper? Which do you prefer? Personally I've turned into a DailyMile fan... which leads me to my second question... which apps on your phone do you prefer to use to track your progress?

I used Runmeter and the Nike+ GPS apps and liked them both. The only issue I had was Runmeter not tracking one of my runs so I switched to the Nike+ and haven't had a problem. Of course I was running on backroads and trails so that was apparently part of the problem.

I'm a huge fan of Runmeter... today I happened to have an issue with it tracking my run... 99.99% sure it was human error.

I've recently spotted another app which I must admit has a unique, yet fantastic UI... I've been suggesting that to friends recently... and its free...

What do you enjoy about the Nike+ app?

Mostly I like that it has tracked all of my runs and that I can choose a playlist and play it through the app. I never quite figured out how to do that on runmeter wink

Oh, I have so much to learn. I just run. I haven't used apps up to this point. Please, tell me more.

The apps are great because they can track your distance/speed/speed per mile (which really helps when you are trying to make sure that you are training on pace )...but they can be a little tricky if you are trying to listen to music through your phone- with Runmeter I have to start my ipod function and then start runmeter...with the Nike one you can play it straight through the app as long as you have a playlist. Also I like that my Nike one has how many miles & hours I've tracked so far this year on its home page...it makes me feel accomplished to see how far I've come!

I suppose I am a bit of an odd ball as I really don't listen to music... if I did I think I would get a rdio or Pandora subscription... and now its the baseball season I would love to try and listen to a game via MLB@bat... I worry about my battery level a little to much to do that... as I stream podcast on my iPhone to a bluetooth receiver.

kayb gave a good idea what they are good for (the tracking apps), and I've mentioned before how I'm more of a RunMeter fan, I think its because well at the time the only choices where RunKeeper and RunMeter, and I just didn't like RunKeeper. I also liked syncing my runs to a calendar. Right now I'm suggesting people I know use Kinetic Lite from Mothership Software... I love the UI Wink

DailyMile well, I'm starting to love that too... I'm not a huge FB fan, and dailyMile is about as Facebook"ie I'm willing to get. Your running app shares your run info to the world more or less and you make connections (it also integrates with Twitter and Facebook). They also send you weekly progress reports... and they keep track of all kinds of other interesting stats. Take a look.

It's no Disney app or anything but I love the Couch to 5k App. Especially because I can play my music and it just yells at me to run or walk.

I use RunKeeper Pro right now! Loving it! I have it programmed for my current run/walk schedule, and I like that I can customize the reports I get during the run (as well as playlists).

I use runKeeper while I'm out walking because it seems to be the most accurate. However when I get home I plug everything into DailyMile for my record keeping.

I don't really listen to music because I walk with my daughter and we talk while we're walking. When I am out on my own I usually listen to Disney Podcasts. I also don't have a training plan in place right now, I just know how many miles I have to be able to do by the end of which months.
