About WDW For Grownups

We're a website dedicated to adults who visit Disney World because they love it, not just because their kids love it. Join in the discussion on our forums or find us here:

There's a moment for all of us when fall truly, madly, deeply in love with being at Disney World. When was that moment for you?

Spotlight on Disneyland's Oscar

He's been around longer than many Disney fans have been alive, and he's still serving up a great breakfast five days a week at the Carnation Cafe in the Disneyland Resort. We're talking about Oscar Martinez. With 54 years of service, he is the longest tenured cast member at the Disneyland Resort.

New Star Tours Attraction Debuts in May

It's been a long, nine month hiatus, but we can finally see the light sabre at the end of the tunnel. Amid the flourish and festivities that surrounded the official debut of the ship the Disney Dream, Disney let fans know that the popular Star Tours will be back in action May 20 at Disney's Hollywood Studios.

Star Tours: The Adventure Continues has received a complete overhaul during its time out of commission. Guests will have a completely new experience with this revamped and reimagined 3D adventure that includes a new pilot, new droids and new excursions into space.

Sunday Round-Up for January 23, 2011

So much news about the Disney Dream and the new promotion for this year, I thought I'd highlight some posts that covered some of the less well-traveled topics:

Imagineering Disney has a great post on World Showcase, then and now. As much as I don't like many of the changes that come to WDW, it's interesting to see how little has changed in many places.

Is Johnny Depp the Next Oz?

They have a director on board plus a unit production manager, but the question these days seems to be who will play the great wizard in Disney's Oz, the Great and Powerful. Robert Downey, Jr., was slated to play the lead, but has reportedly backed out of the production.

Remodeled Bathrooms in Magic Kingdom Make a Splash

Restrooms. We all use them; we all want them to be clean, modern, and "Disney-esque." And there's a newly remodeled set of restrooms in the Magic Kingdom that we think are pretty snazzy. Snazzy enough, in fact, to give them a shout-out!

These are the restrooms located in that little underpass between Adventureland and Frontierland, and Disney World has recently updated them to reflect rich Arabian themeing. We have a few photos of the women's restroom (clearly the best choice, we think!) to give you an idea of the changes.

Disney Dream Christened

It was a day of magic for Disney Cruise Line's long-awaited newest ship. January 19 saw the Disney Dream christened in a lavish and grand ceremony which featured celebrities, top Disney executives and the Mouse himself.

Multi-talented actress and singer Jennifer Hudson was on hand as the Dream's godmother. A very fitting choice was Ms. Hudson as her Oscar- and Grammy-winning career started in 2003 aboard the Dream's sister ship, the Wonder.

"The Magic, the Memories and You" Premiere Pictures and Video

Disney premiered their new promotion for 2011 on Tuesday night, "The Magic, the Memories and You." The show basically uses Cinderella's Castle as a canvas on which to project a variety of special effect that make a compelling visual effect. It will also feature 500 photos from guests who use the PhotoPass service during the day.

Chocolate, Wine & Romance, Waldorf-Astoria Style

Just in time for Valentine's Day, the swanky Waldorf-Astoria Orlando will be hosting Chocolate, Wine & Romance weekends first on February 12-13 and again February 19-20.

The upscale hotel is featuring special pricing for these luxurious getaways where guests have plenty of opportunities to indulge in wine and chocolate. As an added bonus, the hotel is within the gates of Walt Disney World which enables guests to indulge in some fun as well.

Walt Disney World will be celebrating its 40th Anniversary in 2011, and new commemorative merchandise has already taken over the parks! Here are a few of our favorite items we spotted...
