Chocolate Pecan Pie Bar At Frontera Cocina

Last week I shared my thoughts on the Hamilton County Pecan Pie from Art Smith's Homecoming Florida Kitchen. Today we pit Master Chef against Master Chef as we head deeper into Disney Springs discovering yet another take on this classic Southern - the Pecan Pie Bar at Frontera Cocina.

Frontera Cocina is the latest restaurant in Rick Bayless' Mexican Food Empire. Bright and lively, both the bar and restaurant at Frontera Cocina feel sleek and modern. Known for his authentic flavors - Chef Bayless creates exciting, contemporary takes on a Mexican culinary experience.

The moment this dessert was sat down in front of me a smile came over my face. While it wasn't pie in shape, I could see a thick glistening layer of chocolatey goodness, crumbled pecans, and a cookie-like crust. As I drew my fork down into the bar its softness easily gave way, bringing it closer to my mouth I could smell the grated cinnamon. It only took one bite and I was hooked. I sighed as it melted in my mouth bursting with the taste of chocolate and cinnamon. The texture of the crust and the crumbled pecans adding a nice element of contrast to the silky body.

The Frontera Cocina Pecan Pie Bar is topped with a tall swirl of Mexican vanilla ice cream, and garnished with chocolate sauce and cinnamon for a blissful dessert that I could eat again and again.

While the two versions of pecan pie I tried both featured chocolate and were accompanied with vanilla ice cream, and both heirloom family recipes, they were significantly different. So who wins my Pecan Pie show-down? Without a doubt it has to be Rick Bayless. with the whole package of silky pie texture, exciting flavor, and enough to share. The combination of chocolate and cinnamon really won me over.

My mouth is watering for that pie after I read your article. Will definitely try next week when I am at WDW.

Thanks.
