Cognac at Walt Disney World's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa

UPDATE 9/12/19 - Mizners closed in 2019 to make way for the new Enchanted Rose Lounge. It's been called the "comeback spirit" a tantalizing and sophisticated variety of Brandy. Congac is exciting the palettes of people from all walks of life. Named after the town of Cognac in France, the drink is variety of brandy distilled twice in copper pot stills and aged in French oak barrels. If you're looking for a place to kick back and relax with a fine glass of it, head over to Mizners Lounge at the Grand Floridian Resort and Spa.

Mizners Lounge offers a relaxing escape to enjoy a grown up drink. Tucked behind the stage for the Grand Floridian Society Orchestra this lounge is open to the sophisticated guest looking for a comfortable place to relax and wind down. Open from 4:30pm until Midnight, cushioned chairs gather around intimate tables dotted with bowls of mixed nuts. Some reviewers find the decor lacking in "elegance" but when the sun goes down I find it to have an intimate feeling of friends together in your den for nightcaps and great conversation. If you're a jazz fan, this is also the place for some fantastic live music provided nightly.

Whatever this lounge lacks in decor, it more than makes up for with a stunning menu of food and spirits. This comfortable lounge is home to an elegant selection of congacs with some of the finest sips available on property.

You may at first balk at the $70 for a small 1/2 ounce pour, but when you consider that a 750 ml bottle of Remy Martin Louis XIII regularly fetches around $2,500 you better understand where Disney is coming from. The bottle "Louis XIII Black Pearl" limited edition cognac that could be found on board the Disney Dream, cost upwards of $8,000 due to its Bacarat Crystal container. This is an elegant expression of time, a precious elixir aged from 40-100 years.

Americans tend to drink their Cognac as an after dinner digestif, neat, either at room temperature or warmed by cupping the glass in the palm of the hand. However in it's native France it's widely used as in mixed cocktails before dinner as an aperitif to stimulate the appetite. If you have an interest and passion for classic cocktails, why not order up a sophisticated Sidecar, with a mix of Cognac, Cointreau and fresh lemon juice.

If you have a taste for an elegant sip and you're not in the area of the Grand Floridian, several other Disney bars have extraordinary Cognac selections. If you're at Downtown Disney, stop by the Portobello Yacht Club for eight different selections; at Disney's Hollywood Studios the Brown Derby offers a Courvoisier Cognac Flight a try; and in Epcot Le Cellier serves up respectable 2 ounce pours of Remy VSOP, HennesyVS or Courvoisier VS each under $20.

We will for sure be hitting up Le Cellier and trying out a few of those flights. I did not know they offered those. Decent pour (2 ozs.) and under $20 is a good deal. My favourite is Louis by far. We were given two bottles as wedding gifts two years ago. Drank one on our honeymoon. Saving the second for a while.
