Oz: The Great and Powerful Theatrical Trailer Released

L. Frank Baum's beloved wizard character comes to life and as we delve deeper into the mythology of one of the most beloved movie's Hollywood has ever made. In this prequel to "The Wizard of Oz", James Franco plays Oscar Diggs, a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, who is hurled away from a bleak and dusty Kansas landscape to the vibrant Land of Oz.

Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams), are the cast as three witches who doubt Oscar is the powerful wizard that everyone has been waiting for to arrive. Drawn into epic problems that have been facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. When he puts his magical arts to use, will he transform himself not only into the great and powerful wizard but into a better man as well?

Since 1937 the Walt Disney Company has chased the world beyond the rainbow that was created in L. Frank Baum's 1900 novel "The Wonderful World of Oz," but were beat to the original rights by Goldwyn and Mayer in 1938. Walt Disney Productions acquired the rights to the rest of Baum's novels in 1954 and set about on a string of less than dazzling projects. "I don't want to die! I haven't accomplished anything yet!" screams a terrified would-be-wizard Oscar, as his balloon is engulfed and swept away by the twister. The quote from the upcoming film could well be from these property rights sitting on the shelves of the creative Disney owned treasury. The glimpse we've gotten at this latest attempt to capture a magical spark directed by Sam Raimi, is a promising nod to both Baum's books and the classic MGM film.
