Pin Trading at Disney World

Are you a Disney World pin trader? While pins have always been available at Disney World as souvenirs -- with thousands created over the years -- official pin trading didn't begin until October 1999.

Since then, it's become very popular for Disney World guests to take part in pin trading.

Pin trading is easy, once you've bought a lanyard and some pins " there are some great starter sets with lanyards available online and in the parks.

There are thousands of pins to choose from: character pins, park pins, movie pins, attraction pins, commemorative pins and more. Many pin traders like to focus on a certain character or movie to narrow it down, but ultimately it's up to you.

Here's how to trade:

1. Meet a Disney Cast Member wearing a pin trading lanyard.
2. Find a Disney pin that you would like to trade.
3. Trade your Disney Pin with the Cast Member.

I love it! The pin trading becomes just as fun as riding rides and meeting characters. I bought pins to remember my trip as well. Such as the HTH key pin after riding the Tower of Terror for the first time.

I love pin trading! I was really shy the first time, but am getting a little better. It certainly helps that Cast Members are so friendly!

I typically buy the ones I want - rides, special events, park specific and year pins, and then have a few I buy just for trading (I like to stock up at one of the outlet centers!) and then keep my eye out for anything that just strikes my fancy.

My favorite trade is a Happy Birthday spinner I got from a CM at the outlet! And we were there during my birthday week!

We finally got into it our last trip and had a blast doing it. I got a lot of Stitch pins. It's a lot of fun.

I just started trading pins. I got the tip to buy pins on ebay, they're much cheaper. Most of the one's I've gotten I don't like so I have no problem trading them.

Great article about pin trading. My kids love pin trading, but for the adults...we love it just as much as the kids!
