Lucky bamboo is a beautiful living gift. Perhaps ironically, Lucky Bamboo (Dracaena sanderiana) is not actually a member of the bamboo family at all. Instead it has its origins is West Africa, which may be why at Disney's Animal Kingdom the Mombasa Marketplace is where you'll find it.

I'm told that this plant is easy to care far, and can survive in any kind of light. The only thing you have to be sure of is that you don't use fluoride treated water on it. According to Feng shui principles, the bamboo attracts auspicious energy to your home depending on the number of stalks you have.

  • Bamboo Log: Means strong life filled with prosperity.
  • Two Stalks: Represents an expression of love.
  • Three Stalks: The most popular number, brings happiness, long life, and wealth.

It's worth noting that buying a plant as a souvenir can be a tricky thing. If you are traveling from another country, or in the US from California, Arizona, or Texas customs laws often don't allow transport of vegetation. That being said, if you drove to Disney, these little lovelies make for a great souvenir that will only grow in your adoration. If you flew and are going back to any other of the continental US, take advantage of Disney's offer to pack your plant for your carry-on luggage.
