Star Wars: Secrets Of The Empire At The VOID Disney Springs

UPDATED 10/2020 This attraction has been closed permanently.

With all the excitement over the Grand Opening of Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge opening up, it seems like a great time to mention that Disney's Hollywood Studios isn't the only place with fun adventures in the Star Wars Universe. The VOID at Disney Springs is a truly fascinating virtual reality experience that can put you right in the center of the action.

The VOID is located at Disney Springs between Once Upon a Toy and Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique. The storefront is fairly unremarkable, but what's inside is a portal to the fantastic. A statement on The VOID's website shares the rather unique development of this project.

"A partnership exploring Tesla Field tracking for untethered VR productions accidentally opened a transfinite portal across an infinity of parallel dimensions - the Omniverse - and took its first, if initially tragic, step into the VOID.

The mission of the VOID soon crystalized around our Security Division's motto: Itinerantur, Inquisitio, Praesidium - Travel, Inquiry and Protection. We travel across the Omniverse and strive to understand its meaning, all while protecting our own reality from possible threats from other dimensions.

Now after years of private research and development, our Rapture(r) Rigs have been certified safe for commercial travel into select parallel dimensions. VOID Travelers can now step beyond their reality into any one of an infinity of possibilities: places where dreams and nightmares have substance, hopes and fears can be touched and worlds without number await to be experienced and explored. "The VOID is a whole-body, fully immersive experience, with you, your friends and family physically inside the action." Each experience in The VOID (at Disney Springs you can choose between Star Wars and Wreck-It Ralph) accommodates a maximum of four people. All participants "must be at least 10 years of age and a minimum height of 4ft" in order to assure guest safety.

The cast members at The VOID are super friendly, and make the experience even more fun. Once you are all checked in, and your mission band is attached (aka your wristband ticket) it's time to gear up and step inside for a hyper-reality few get to experience.

Star Wars: Secrets Of The Empire

The mission for you and your team is to recover Imperial intelligence that's vital to the rebellion's survival. Disguised as stormtroopers, you will be transported with your friends and family to the molten planet of Mustafar. Once there you will have to grab your blaster, solve puzzles, and fight giant lava monsters to fulfill your orders. Due to the nature of the experience we can't share pictures of what goes on (all personal items including phones and cameras are stowed before your mission) but check out the YouTube Video below that gives a glimpse at what's in store on this exciting mission.

While we were down in Florida, there were posters hung on many of the Walt Disney World Transportation Buses containing a "Secret Code." If you repeat that code when you check-in at The VOID you got a free picture of yourself all geared up. This is your only chance to get a picture of yourself in the VR gear.

Entering The VOID was a thrilling experience in gaming that is worth participating in again and again. General admission is roughly $35 - $40 for each experience depending on time and date booked. Tickets can be purchased either ahead of time, or in person at the storefront in Disney Springs.
