The Walt Disney Studios and Pixar were the big winners at this year's International Animated Film Society's Annie Awards. Overall, Disney and its related companies picked up 17 Annie Awards. The Annie is the animation industry's equivalent of an Academy Award.

The Magic of Disney Animation at Disney’s Hollywood Studios Closing this Month

You can add The Magic of Disney Animation to the growing list of extinct attractions at Disney's Hollywood Studios. The attraction, which has been at the park since 1989, is set to close forever on July 12 to make way for a new guest experience.

John Lasseter Says Pixar and Disney are Working to Tell Stories with Diverse Characters

Disney/Pixar's newest animated feature Inside Out arrives in movie theaters next month and during a recent press junket studio chief John Lasseter said the animation studio is working hard to create stories about more diverse characters.

Disney’s ‘Frozen’ Named Best Animated Featured at 41st Annual Annie Awards

Earlier this month Disney's animated hit film Frozen took top honors at the 41st Annual Annie Awards when it was named Best Animated Feature.

The Annie Awards honor excellence and individual achievement in 30 categories including best feature, production, design, character animation, effects animation, writing, music, storyboarding, editing, and voice acting.

The awards are often considered a predictor for which film will win the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.

Hand Drawn Animators Included in Layoffs at The Walt Disney Company

During the past couple of weeks reports began surfacing about impending staff cuts at The Walt Disney Company, and by the end of the week the cuts became official as nine veteran animators from the hand drawn animation team were let go.

Tom Bancroft, a former Disney animator, tweeted out the names of the animators from his personal account on April 11. Several online sites also listed the names. The veteran hand drawn artists who lost their jobs are: Nik Ranieri, Ruben Aquino, Frans Vischer, Russ Edmonds, Brian Ferguson, Jamie Lopez and Dan Tanaka.

"Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" To Mark 75 Years With Showing at New York Film Festival

"Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" will be marking its 75th anniversary with a "state-of-the-art digital presentation" at this year's New York Film Festival. The beloved Disney animated film is set to light up the big screen on Saturday, September 29 at the Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall.

Those lucky enough to attend the festival's screening of the Disney classic will also be treated to a sneak peek of the newest Disney animated short, "Paperman."

'Poster Art of the Disney Parks' Book Coming to Disney Parks Soon

It's a book that's been four years in the making, and now it's almost ready to make its debut in Disney Parks Stores. "Poster Art of the Disney Parks," the creation of Disney Imagineers Vanessa Hunt and Danny Handke, showcases posters utilized by Disney to convey the essence of its theme parks and attractions.

The book includes over 300 posters and concepts, including some "never before seen" prints and almost all of the original 1950's Disneyland posters. Says author and Imagineer Hunt about her book:

Disney's Art of Animation Resort Opening First Phase in May

It's good news for Disney Resort enthusiasts! Earlier this week, Disney Imagineers made the announcement that the newest resort, Disney's Art of Animation, is expected to open in phases beginning May 31, 2012.

Tour Walt Disney Studios and Archives With D23 This Summer

D23, the official Disney fan club, has a nice opportunity for members this summer. On Saturday July 23, they are hosting a special tour for D23 members of Walt Disney Studios and Walt Disney Archives located in Burbank, California.
