DVC President Fired

Management changes and shake ups continue at Disney. Last Friday, the company fired Jim Lewis, president of the Disney Vacation Club.

Disney confirmed the change on Friday. Spokeswoman Rena Langley said, "We wish Jim Lewis well in his future endeavors and we plan to announce his successor in the near future." Lewis had been president of the DVC since 2006.

Grand Floridian Spa Closing in September

Walt Disney World will soon be down to one full-service spa as the spa at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort and Spa will be shutting down temporarily starting September 19.

Last Friday, Disney spokesman Brian Malenius stated, "We are in the early stages of an expansion project at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa." He went on to add the spa will "temporarily close this fall as part of a planned renovation."

An Addition for the Grand Floridian

Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa will be getting an addition sometime in the future.

A permit application detailing the upcoming addition was submitted to the South Florida Water Management District. It describes a T-shaped building standing at six to seven stories high and connected to the current resort with a covered walkway.

D23 Launches Referral Program and DVC Discount

Disney is continuing to find ways to try to make joining their D23 program worth your while.

Weekly DVC Member Events at Walt Disney World

Should Disney Continue with Stand Alone Hotels?

It was announced last month that The Walt Disney Company has canceled plans to build a 500 room National Harbor resort in Washington, D.C. Disney purchased the 15 acres in May of 2009 for $11 million.

Looking to build a stand-alone Disney branded hotel, they pulled out with Disney spokeswoman Kristin Nolt Wingard stating, "Given the full slate of expansion currently underway at Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, the timing isn't right to proceed with another new project of this scale."
