Disney Hires New Head of Casting

Disney got a new head of casting when it hired Randi Hiller to fill the slot of VP of casting. The post had been vacant since February's layoffs.

Hiller, an independent casting director with more than twenty years of experience, has worked on Marvel pictures in the past, including "The Avengers," "Thor," and "Iron Man 2." Her resume also includes a few past Disney pics - "Miracle" and "Race to Witch Mountain." She is also noted for her work on the Oscar-winner "Crash."

Construction on Four Seasons to Begin in December

Earlier this summer, we brought you a snippet about the Four Seasons hotel opening being delayed until 2014. Now, news out of Orlando is that the upscale hotel company has the funds in place and expects to begin construction this December.

The amount of financing Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts now has to start the long-planned project is said to be $360 million.

The Florida Project Takes Place at Epcot This Weekend

Epcot will be the place for many dedicated pin traders this weekend as it is set to host the Disney Trade Celebration. This year's event, called the Florida Project, starts today and focuses on giving pin and Vinylmation enthusiasts opportunities to swap pins, participate in silent auctions and meet Disney pin artist and developers.

Today and Saturday are focused on pin trading from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Guests can expect a wide variety of pins, some featuring a retro or nostalgic feel as WDW gears up to celebrate its 40th anniversary.

Guests "Stranded" on "Pirates" at WDW

News out of Orlando has it that some guests were caught on board Disney's "Pirates of the Caribbean" for at least an hour Sunday night. Some guests are reporting the ride stopped running sometime around 10:30 p.m. on September 4 resulting in an hour to two hour wait before exiting the ride was made possible.

Disney has said it attempted to automatically restart the ride; eventually, the ride was started manually. An apology to all riders affected by the delay was issued by Disney, and the company is working on settling any guest inconvenience on a case-by-case basis.

Beware of Pizza Scam at Disney

Visiting Mickey and friends in Orlando any time soon? You might want to skip that pizza after a long day at the parks - especially if it's offered from a flyer.

It appears some identity thieves are out to grab your credit card info by slipping phony pizza advertisements under hotel doors. Instead of ringing up a pizza parlor, the number is straight to someone who's after an identity and not an order.

Walt Disney World Gets New Monorail

WDW will soon have twelve monorail trains in its collection as they plan to add a new train to its fleet this fall.

The new train will make an even dozen monorails in the Disney collection. The last time Disney had a full twelve trains was prior to the July 2009 accident that resulted in the death of a driver. Since then, WDW has been running eleven monorails.

Attention Disney collectors! This week, Disney has chosen to debut two new Vinylmation collections at this year's Comi-Con.

nine-inch figures that retail for $39.95. Look for this line to be available for purchase in Disney stores today.

"Up" House For Sale

File this one under the "whimsy yet cool" file: a construction company has built a life-size replica of the house from the movie "Up."

Keep in mind, this isn't the same house used in the Discovery Channel's experiment earlier this year. After getting the green light from Disney, Bangerter Homes constructed a 2,800 square foot model of Carl & Ellie's house and included some neat details from the film - including Ellie's mural in the living room.

Tinkerbell To Return to Magic Kingdom

The Magic Kingdom is preparing to welcome back Tinkerbell and her Fairy Friends later this month.

After Toontown closed as part of the ongoing Fantasyland Expansion, Tinkerbell and the Fairies were temporarily moved to Epcot. Now, they have a new place at the Adventureland Veranda in the MK to meet and greet their fans.

Look for Tinkerbell and the Disney Fairies in their new home starting July 28.

Movie Buzz: "King of the Elves" and a 5th "Pirates"

Here's another round of movie buzz for my fellow Disney lovers, including a bit about a new animated film and a possible fifth return of Jack Sparrow.

First off, it looks like a project that was originally announced back in 2008 has received the go-ahead. Disney announced recently that they are moving forward with the animated feature "King of the Elves."

The story, based on a short story by Philip K. Dick, will tell the tale of a group of elves who are saved by a human from an evil troll and thus declare said human to be their king.
