My 78 year old father has spinal stenosis and really bad arthritis throughout his body and he rode it with us the last time we were there. He was fine with it, but it was my first time riding it...Had I known what it was REALLY going to be like, I wouldn't have recommended he go on it with us.
So, you'll probably survive it, but it's not worth taking a chance ruining your vacation over, in my one-time-riding opinion!

How dark are we talking? Like Stitch's great escape dark? Because I'm the world's biggest chicken...and I'm really ok with it 
Not trying to hijack the post here, but I have similar questions. We've been contemplating trying both Dinosaur and Expedition Everest on this trip because we currently don't "do" much at Animal Kingdom and we are trying to develop more appreciation for it, but I am very nervous about new "thrill" rides. Based on the following criteria, can anyone give me some guidance on these two attractions? I tried to watch ride throughs on YouTube, but you can't get a feeling for the motion
*I love to spin and go fast and general bumpy motion is totally fine, but I don't like large drops of the sensation of free falling at all.
*I'm massively claustrophobic and I can't tolerate an overhead harness restraint system. I'm also terrified of snakes--real or animatronic
*Here's my take on other rides that I've tried if that gives a better frame of reference for my ride tolerance. Love: Tea Cups, Star Tours, BTMR, Barnstormer. Hate: Stitch's Great Escape, Mission Space. Will ride but not crazy about: Splash Mountain, Space Mountain, Spaceship Earth. Won't try bc there is a 100% chance I'll have a panic attack: ToT, Rock-n-Roller Coaster

I was thinking about you when I was on some of the rides this trip!
I think Everest is most similar to Big Thunder Mountain. (The drops may be a little bigger but not on the scale of Splash Mountain) We rode this twice and loved it.
We also rode primeval whirl at Animal Kingdom - loved this too.
Dinosaur was fine. You are in an open vehicle and it never goes totally dark.
Rock n Roller coaster twice. I'm not too keen on the first few seconds of this ride but after that it is fast and fun. Similar to Space Mountain but not as dark/intense effects.
I swerved ToT and Mission Space.
The only ride I had a slight problem with this trip was star tours. I love the actual ride but don't like being shut in the simulator. Still did it twice this trip though.

Thanks Miss Mikki!! I really want to "suck it up, buttercup" as we say in our house and try Everest. Is the restraint on Everest deinitely a lap bar? We've got a FP+ for Dinosaur and I feel pretty comfortable giving it a try after everyone's encouragement. I would do Primeval Whirl in a second, but I don't think DH can handle it. He looks a little green after riding the tea cups and when I suggested trying PW last time, his eyes got HUGE and he just looked at me and slowly shook his head. I can hardly disrespect his limited "Spinability" when he is so patient with my insanity!!
I'm sorry that Star Tours wasn't good for you I've been minorly uncomfortable being locked in on the simulator, but never bad enough to make me freak out like Mission: Space!! THe worst was the time that I went single rider and I got the last spot in the last row. It was really humid that day and I was trapped in the back corner. Not a good combo!

Yes, just a lap bar and the vehicle is a train like Thunder Mountain.
The spinning isn't bad on primeval Whirl, it looks worse from the ground than it is when you are actually on it, but you get really jolted around, so not good for someone with a back problem etc.

I had a back injury in a car accident July 2012. I went to WDW in August of 2012 and that was one that I was able to ride. I can brace myself quite easily.
Let me ask you, do you have trouble on:
1. Space Mountain
2. Big Thunder Mountain
3. Safari
If the answer, especially to Safari, which I consider a really rough ride, is yes, you may want to consider skipping it. If the answer is no, then go for it.
