Shameful Disney Secret..

That said, I'm perfectly fine with making sure little kids who are with me get their chance to meet characters if they want. And I like to people watch sometimes. You can't help but enjoy it when the kids get excited.

One of my funny Disney moments was when my cousin and I took a three day Disney trip as twenty-somethings. It was the first time either of us had been there since Toon Town had been opened. We were just wandering around not really planning anything and ended up in a line for what we thought was a show. It was a loooong line but it was cool out of the sun and we were tired so we figured what the heck. After a considerable amount of time I started paying attention to my surroundings and listening to the conversations around us.

I finally had to nudge my cousin and whisper to her... "We're in line to meet Mickey Mouse." mickey She wanted to leave but I told her we'd waited this long and by God we were going to meet the Mouse! I wonder whatever happened to that photo they took with my camera?

You know...that's not so shameful...or at least if it is, you aren't alone. I was the same way, but more like, "There's a person in there, you know. That's not really Mickey. And they are totally making fun of you and rolling their eyes." I think having children cured me of my cynicism/parannoia! Looking at the characters through my daughter's eyes has helped me to get caught up in the magic. It started by just trying to make the moment special for her, but now I do much better with the character interactions, and I don't think they're so lame mickey

My shameful Disney secret...

When I was little I used to think that Kermit the Frog and I would get married. I seriously loved him and I did not like Miss Piggy because she never treated him right. I still hold a special place for Kermie in my fantasy world we would be together.

I have also never seen Illuminations, Fantastmic, or Wishes (but I do love fireworks) and we will remedy this on our next trip in Sept Smile

That line is so deceiving because the same thing happened to us! I remember we were like "Ohh..Judge's Tent?!? What's that?" Much like you by the time we figured out what we were waiting for we figured we'd been waiting that long..why not stay?

Lol, oh, don't beat yourself over it, I think it must have happened to all of us at least once!

It actually happened to me last time I was in AK. We got in a line (ok, we knew it was a character) and waited...After a while I got sick and tired of waiting, addressed myself to the castlady who was watching over the character (I forget what they are called) and asked "Who's the character?" And she says "It's Baloo". I'm like "WUT?". So she says "Baloo, the bear...from Mogli". Dude, I must have watched Mogli when I was a toddler or something...I was curious as hell to see this Baloo guy...I mean, bear...He was taking a break.

Finally he arrives and I feel sooooo stupid, of course I know that frigging blue bear!!! He was really cute, gave me a big hug, we danced around...He dropped my mom's shades! Lol! Then he was all appologetical...It turned out to be a cute, funny moment...

And if you think that's bad, wait until you met my mom. She has NO CLUE. I think she knows Minnie, Mickey, Donald, Goofy...MAYBE some Pixar characters (she loves Findind Nemo). Princessess? Pfff, they all probably look the same to her...

SHE DOESN'T KNOW POOH!!!

So I get in this line in the UK pavillion, but the characters are around the corner, so I can't see! I had to ask her:

-Mom, would you do me a favor and check what's the character?

She leaves, takes FOREVER, comes back laughing and says:

-There's this brown dude and a striped one.

And soon as she says it, the line moves and I get to see them...God, I laughed SO hard I had this stupid face the rest of the day...laugh

Don't be too hard on your mom, Noturna. I was in my 30's at least before I ever heard of Winnie the Pooh. I knew the Uncle Remus stories, and the Just So Stories, and Dr. Seuss, and the "standard" Grimm's stories, but WtP? Nope.

I have an original beat up winnie bear. his poor mouth is fallign off and his felt nose has seen better days, it's way older than I am but no one knows where it came from.

2 things:
1. My whole family hates Duffy Bear. My 11 yr daughter is convinced that Disney is going to phase out Mickey Mouse when the tm runs out and replace him with Duffy Bear yuck

2. We have never been to Earl of Sandwich at DTD. After seeing it referenced so much on another thread, I've decided we need to try it soon. and along those lines, (another confession), we rarely eat at Disney. If we ate there every time we went, we would be broker than broke and couldn't afford our passes! We usually do a dole whip or small snack, but eat at home before and after our trip. Wish we could try all the restaurants, we have been to some, for special occasions that's how we celebrate. I eat vicariously through all you on your vacations! biggrin

I agree, i don't like Duffy Bear either. I just don't get what it is all about. The big secret is that I have not had a Dole Whip yet. I've been to MK over 20 times and have not stopped their once.

It's a little Teddy bear that Disney seems to be promoting and selling everywhere. I didn't know about it until we went this past June. It's a little bit weird.

Weird!! I had never ever heard of that before! I should add that to that other thread we have going on.

and yesterday we found DUFFY EARS yuck We took the above pic and texted it to Riley to tease her. She gets so mad about it. Supposedly it takes an act of congress to approve Mickey's copyright/trademark extension. Maybe he will be replaced w Duffy? Our world would end!

It wont happen. There are plenty of other things that could take over, over Duffy. Duffy is just a bear Mickey has from Minnie. Dont think that will take over. I think the closest thing to take over would be Woody and Buzz... and Lasseter has already said that wont happen. I think Mickey is very safe.

Duffy is actually the teddy bear that Minnie gave to Mickey before a trip to keep him company I believe

Mickey Mouse could NEVER be replaced. When you think Disney and Mickey go hand in hand.

I thought the mascot for EPCOT was the purple dragon "Figment". Has "Duffy" surpassed him? Didn't even know that "Duffy" existed....

on our first trip we completely missed the left side of MK... we got home and were like where the heck was the haunted mansion?

ermm i have never ridden mission space?

I love the Hall of Presidents, American Adventure, and O' Canada. Not because I nap there... But because I actually like the show! Thats my secret... Everybody else seems to hate them. Please don't Tar and Feather me. I love all the educational stuff.
Actually... Hall of Pres. is one of my favorites. A must do for sure.

I've never ridden the train in Magic Kingdom.
The last couple trips I've made a mental note to do it, but never seem to actually get around to it...

I also make a point NOT to watch the parades most of the time. Its not that I don't like them, but parades in general just aren't that exciting to me. And they're definitely not worth putting up with the crowds. yuck
