Of course, our #1 collection is Donald, and everything Donald.

We got 2 pins during the WCPT pin meet that certain are two of our favorites. The first is the recently released D23 pin commemorating Donald's 75 anniversary. I must say, and I am certainly bias, that this is the best-looking D23 pin so far, just slightly ahead of the D23 Plane Crazy pin. I even like the box that it came in!

The other Donald pin that we got was also another one of those difficult pin to get. It is an Imagineering pin, and it mimics a Disney cast member ID for Donald, complete with bar codes!

Love, love that pin. I believe there are other characters in this set having their cast ID, but considering how difficult it was to get this one, I'm not even going to try getting the rest of the set. I've ran out of first borns to trade!

OK, since you asked, it is this pin set:

Zapperz -- does the set include ALL of those pins, or just the country ones? (I LOVE the World of Motion pin that came up as I clicked through)

Just the country ones, so there should be 11 of them.

I really like that one, too, but the Communicore one is my favorite. I didn't realize they have "defunct" attractions pins. I could get into that!

Another theme that I collect is theme park icons. This means all the castles, Spaceship Earth, the Hat, and Tree of Life.

So that's why I almost went into labor when I saw this cast member set when I went to Company D last time. It is the exact set that I want, AND, it also has almost all of the Fab 5 (with Pluto missing).

What a great display. I really like that they're holding their nametags.

Speaking of, I saw another "cast member ID badge" pin and thought of you -- this one was the bride at haunted mansion.

Noted... biggrin I'll go through my pin box this week (good motivation, as it's been sitting here for weeks and I haven't touched it).

This is another pin set that I love, and the good news is that, as far as I know, you can still buy them at the parks.

Epcot is my most favorite Disney theme park, so anything dealing with Epcot would be right up my alley. So when I saw this set, of course I had to have it.

It also helps (as if it needed one) that Donald is part of the set.

Smile

That's a great one. I really like Test Track Goofy.

Zapperz, in another thread I saw a bunch of Pooh Bear "Santas" from World Showcase. Do you have those?

Nope. I don't.

I've traded away all of my "holidays" pins and "Pooh" pins. Unless they fall into an existing theme that I'm collecting, I no longer have any of those.

So these are some of my favorite pins, not just because of the pin design, which is fun in its own right, but because of what came with the pins!

This was from the last O-pin House pin collection at Disneyland. If you guy this pin set, you actually get a specially-designed small pin bag that comes with it!

So of course, I LOVE the pin bag. I'm debating on whether I should use it, or simply keep it in pristine condition, since I only have one.

First of all you gotta understand...I am in no way a photographer. And taking pictures with my cell phone is always a risky proposition at best...but here goes anyway.

I am a semi-serious pin collector. And I collect key chains too. I display mine on my backback that I take with us every where we go. And I get a lot of comments on it. People stop me to see what pins I have.

The first picture (from top to bottom) is of our pin commemorating our honeymoon trip last year...an inaugral DCL pin...and a pin I got on our honeymoon cruise...

Picture 2 is a pin I traded for at WDW. I managed to get two Inaugral DCL cruise pins. Donna and I do pirate stuff too and I had to have a Pirate Mickey pin. The CM I traded with was thrilled with the Inaugral Cruise pin.

And the last picture is on I got many years ago from Epcot. Not one you can find anymore.

Disney had released pins before 1999, but only in sporadic fashion. They didn't think they could make any money out of it. Can you believe that? Smile

It was only in 1999 for the Millennium celebration that they officially got into it. And things haven't been the same ever since. I hate to think how much money I've spent on pins! Ouch!

Just in case anyone is interested in all the events, activities, and pins that have been scheduled as part of the year-long celebration of this anniversary, the list of what's to come can be found here:

http://eventservices.disney.go.com/pintrading/event?id=47119

This includes the announcement of next year's pin celebration event:

Quote:
Trade City, U.S.A. - Disney Pin Celebration 2010 - New and long time
traders are invited to a 10th Anniversary "Founders Day" celebration
for Trade City, U.S.A. during Disney Pin Celebration 2010 from August
27-29, 2010 in World Showplace at Epcot®. Guests will find themselves
immersed in Trade City, an eclectic town nestled in Trading Valley that
is home to the world's longest lanyard and the world's biggest ear hat.
Guests attending this ticketed Disney Pin Event will enjoy fun trading
activities, the opportunity to purchase specially designed pins, and
meet Disney pin traders from around the world. Watch DisneyPins.com for
all the details on this exciting annual event.

We haven't decided yet if we will be going to this one. It really depends if they'll be having another D23 event at DL next year, and the design of the pins that will be released this year at the event.

That trading event sounds like it has a really fun theme.

Well, we have finally decided that we WILL be going to this one. Haven't made reservations, etc. yet. The registration for this event will open some time in March.

In any case, I'd like to share with you a new pin set that I just received yesterday. My JAW DROPPED when I opened it!

This is from a friend who just came back from Hong Kong Disneyland, and bought me this pin set that was released during this just past Chinese New Year. This pin set is STUNNING!

This is the cover of the box.

and when you open the box, you see this!

Each of the character is on its own panel that make up a chinese screen. It can be made to stand on its own.

It is an amazing set, and I've been admiring it since I got it.

Now, if only someone can translate to me what those Chinese letters mean... Smile BTW, the whole set costs HK$350.00! Smile

That's a gorgeous set, Zz. I'm astounded at the cost, too! I think I'd set this up on a podium under glass for a while in your pin room... Thanks for taking photos for us.

Also, I know you usually go to WDW in December, but I can't remember when your traditional second trip is each year; will August be a "new time" for you guys? The event sounds great.

Well, it costs about US$50, which for that set, is on par with what I would expect.

We usually go in Sept. But since the pin event got moved to August (it was in June this past year due to the D23 event at DL), it looks like the sweltering August will be our trip. It will be our 2nd trip of the year, though. We are planning on going to WDW in late April/early May for a short 5-day trip.

No kidding! They need a Pin Board of Directors with Zapperz in the lead.

So, Zz, are there trips planned for April, August, and December this year? I hope so; I love your picture-filled reports from the World!

That's a stunning pin set, by the way. Just beautiful.

We haven't planned our Dec. trip yet. There's a small possibility that we might revive our "Mini Grand Tour" for the December trip. At this point, that is still up in the air.

Beautiful pin set, Zapperz. August trip sounds good...and hot. Smile I anticipate many afternoons in the Saratoga Springs air conditioning! (Is that where you're staying, or are you going to be somewhere else this time?)
