Best Cool Treats for the ‘Coolest Summer Ever’ at Walt Disney World

After a very long and very cold winter (for most of us) it seems that summer might finally be just around the corner and if you're traveling to Walt Disney World this summer that means it's going to be hot. We're talking H-O-T kind of hot. Melting while you're standing still hot. Sweating in places you didn't think was possible hot. And this means you need to keep your cool.

Keep cool with these sweet treats!Keep cool with these sweet treats!

And we think one of the best ways to keep your cool during what's been heralded as the Coolest Summer Ever is to eat a lot of cold food. Specifically ice cream and other cold things like that. So we decided to come up with a list of the coolest foods to enjoy during the hot summer months at Disney.

First on our list is always Dole Whip. Whether you choose to go old school and just get a regular, standard Dole Whip or if you up the ante a bit with a Dole Whip twist or even a Dole Whip float, this sweet and cool treat can't be beat. And if you're feeling really adventurous head over to Tamu Tamu Refreshments at Disney's Animal Kingdom and order your Dole Whip with dark or coconut rum.

Our favorite go-to drink during the hot summer days has to be a Frozen Coke and we think the best one can be found at the Lunching Pad in the Magic Kingdom. You'll also find some other icy cold slushes on the menu. Pinocchio's Village Haus is another good spot for fun slush drinks. In the past they've featured a Blue Raspberry Slush and a Lemonade Slush.

You'll find good slush drinks at several spots in the theme parks, but if you're looking for a grownup slush (and really, who isn't?) you need to get to the Les Vins des Chefs de France kiosk in Epcot's France pavilion. This is where you'll find the mother of all slushes, the Grand Marnier Slush and the Grey Goose Citron Slush.

There really is nothing better than ordering one of these slushes, finding a shaded area to sit, and just relaxing. Pair it with a snack from the Les Halles Bakery and it's total perfection.

If milk and ice cream is more your style you'll find some great milkshakes at Disney. Some of our favorites are found at the Prime Time Cafe or Min and Bill's Dockside Diner at Disney's Hollywood Studios. Min and Bill's has been serving a churro milkshake lately and we hear it's divine. Our friends at the Disney Food Blog even created a Milkshake Crawl! Let us know if you've tried this one.

If you're looking for an out-of-the-ordinary cool treat we recommend stopping by the Kona Island at Disney's Polynesian Village Resort. Here you'll find "real" shave ice (not the ice pellet style shave ice at the Magic Kingdom). This is like a cup of snow flavored with your choice of sweet syrups. It's a unique treat and it's sure to cool you to the core.

Another cool treat found outside the parks is the world famous Kitchen Sink Sundae at Beaches and Cream at Disney's Beach Club Resort. You'll want to bring the whole family to take down this sundae.

But if you want a smaller version of the Kitchen Sink you'll find it at the Plaza Ice Cream Parlor in the Magic Kingdom. This sundae is served in a Mickey Pants kitchen sink and is perfect for a hot summer day.

Speaking of Mickey Mouse and ice cream, one of our favorite cool treats at any time of year has to be the Mickey Premium Ice Cream Bar. You can find this classic treat at ice cream carts around the theme parks.

And as much as we love the Plaza Ice Cream Parlor for hand-dipped ice cream, there's another spot we love a little bit more. That spot is L'Artisans des Glaces in Epcot's France pavilion. Here you'll find 16 flavors of housemade ice cream and sorbet. But that's not all that you'll find. L'Artisans also serves delicious Pressed Brioche ice cream sandwiches, Macaron Ice Cream Sandwiches, and Ice Cream Martinis. L'Artisans is a must-stop spot for ice cream in Epcot!

Here's to celebrating the Coolest Summer Ever with some cool summer treats!
