Port Orleans Riverside is a Disney Moderate Resort inspired by the simple charms of south in days gone by. The Sassagoula Steamboat Company welcomes guests to a picturesque setting that evokes the romance of rural Louisiana. It's here that you'll find the resort's quick service dining location, The Riverside Mill Food Court. I stopped by on a recent trip for dinner before seeing the show at the River Roost Lounge.
The interior theme of this restaurant is exactly as advertised, a Riverside Mill complete with the stunningly crafted machine workings of the 32-foot water wheel. It's soaring ceiling and tremendous rustic woodwork creates both a beautifully simplistic and creatively themed environment. Riverside Mill is open to serve guests for breakfast, lunch, and dinner with a wide variety of food to satisfy your crew.
Like many of the moderate resort quick serve locations, Riverside Mill has a food court full of pass-thru windows where guest can find delicious dishes just waiting for them. The menu is speckled with "fare inspired by Southern Louisiana style cookin' on the bayou."
Riverside Mill Food Court Windows Include:
In addition to the made to order items from each of the food court windows, guests will find a substantial amount of grab-and-go selections. There are plenty of snacks, nibbles, and sweets to be found in this location. It's also the spot where guests using the Disney Dining Plan can pick up their Resort Mugs.
Those mugs can be filled all day long at the massive hot and cold beverage and condiment center that has been built around the base of the waterwheel gears and axle. The structure is beautiful and at the heart of the theme for this casual restaurant.
The expansive seating area accommodates 450 guests and reaches back through the mill building on both sides of the millwork beverage center. Window seats offer view of the water wheel, greenery, and ol' man island across the waterway. The oak chairs are comfortable enough, but in general this isn't a comfy spot to linger.
Guests needing to recharge electronics will find a smattering of outlets along the outside walls, but no more than required by code.
The Pimento BLT gained my attention at the Sandwich and Salads Window. Pimento Cheese is a popular dish sometimes known (with tongue in cheek) as the "caviar of the South." Made by combining sharp cheddar cheese, mayonnaise, pimentos, and a variety of regional additions this spread is an inexpensive way to pack in flavor.
Riverside Mill's Pimento BLT is a classic BLT full of fresh ingredients including a house-made Pimento Cheese. The sandwich is served with crispy thick cut house-made Chips. If you love a good BLT this is a sandwich you'll enjoy. It is packed full of leafy lettuce, juicy tomatoes, and delicious bacon before getting a generous spread of the thick and tangy pimento cheese.
For dessert I indulged in the Orange Chocolate Mini Bundt. The yellow cake was full of little chocolate chips and topped with an orange glaze that's then drizzled with dark chocolate stripes.
Dessert selections are always changing in the bakery case here, so while the Orange Chocolate Mini Bundt may not be available on your visit you can be assured that something sinfully sweet and delicious can be found.
The slow southern style of Port Orleans Riverside makes it a charming spot to relax and serves up gratifying comfort food. I really enjoyed my dinner at the Riverside Mill Food Court and found myself wondering why I hadn't taken the time to enjoy this resort previously. Riverside Mill accepts the Disney Dining Plan and for folks on the go is Mobile-Order accessible.
