Details Surface Regarding Walt Disney World's 40th Anniversary Celebration on October 1

Disney to date has seemed fairly tight-lipped about what's in store to celebrate 40 years of Walt Disney World. Recently, though, some of the big day's plans have emerged and give guests an idea of what to expect on October 1 at the Magic Kingdom.

First off, a special 40th anniversary presentation will start at 10 a.m. at the Cinderella Castle Forecourt Stage. Mum's still the word on the presentation's details, but it's said that many guests have been planning for an early trip to the MK that day.

The evening of October 1 will include additional fireworks to the nighttime "Wishes" show to celebrate the anniversary. The fireworks spectacular is set to begin at 9 p.m. In addition, the Magic Kingdom will be open until midnight.

As you might expect, large crowds are expected on that day, and it is a rumor that some will come outfitted in 1970's-style attire to celebrate an unoffical "Retro Day."

Shoppers will be happy to learn that many of the park's stores will be carrying 40th anniversary merchandise. Disney artists will also be on hand for autographs in Frontierland's Diamond Horseshoe and Main Street USA's Uptown Jewelers. Those artists expected to be on hand for meet-and-greet duties are: Costa Alavezos, Brent Reese, Greg McCullogh, Noah, Dave Avanzino, Jody Daily and Kevin Kidney, Jim Shore, Robert Olszewski, and Gene Gonda.

Guests can also expect surprises throughout the day in the park and possible sightings and meet-and-greet opportunities with Disney characters that don't appear in the park too often. Special park maps, buttons and cupcakes throughout the day are also on the menu for October 1.
