Disney VoluntEARS Help Build a New Playground for Kids in Central Florida

A group of Disney VoluntEARS recently helped build a new playground that provides a safe place to play for the kids of Oakland, Florida.

The VoluntEARS worked with a KaBOOM! construction crew and representatives from the town of Oakland to place 48,600 square feet of safety surfacing and assemble new playground equipment. In all more than 200 volunteers took part in the project.

The design of the playground was based on the local children's dream playground drawings that had been collected at a kick-off event earlier this year. Once the playground was completed, the VoluntEARS and community members held a ribbon cutting ceremony to dedicate the new area.

"Disney VoluntEARS are proud to help build this place of fun and fitness, where children and families can learn, play and grow together," said Nancy Gidusko, director of community relations and minority business development at Walt Disney World Resort. "It was exhilarating to see this project come together in just one day for the children of Oakland."

KaBOOM! has worked with community partners since its founding in 1996 to improve and open more than 15,000 playground around the country. Disney is a sponsor of KaBOOM! and supports the organization's vision as part of The Magic of Healthy Living partnership initiative.
