Downtown Disney Balloon Grounded After Hong Kong Accident

A familiar sight is missing from the skies above Downtown Disney. The Characters in Flight balloon currently is not operating after an incident with a similar balloon in another park across the ocean.

Late last week, a balloon in a park based in Hong Kong plummeted 60 yards to the ground due to a leak. It's reported five people sustained injuries, though none were serious.

Following the accident, similar balloons in Downtown Disney and Disneyland Paris were pulled for inspection. A Disney spokesperson reportedly has confirmed the company who owns and runs the balloon ride, Aerophile, has "suspended operations until further notice."

I do hope that the balloon inspections go well and that they're put back into operation soon. Perhaps regular inspections need to happen more often.

I know in Downtown Disney, they are very careful with the balloon, if it is the slight bit windy or a storm is coming they do not open it. The take a lot of precations with it.
