The new Avatar-themed area is being built in the former location of Camp Minnie-Mickey between Africa and the Oasis at the Animal Kingdom.

The marquee attraction is reportedly a banshee flight simulator inspired by the flying creatures from the film. Another ride will reportedly be an indoor boat ride through the forests of Pandora. The area will feature foliage from Pandora in addition to the floating mountains seen in the film, 3D projections, and even an abandoned military base camp.

Disney's Animal Kingdom is also planning a brand new nighttime show that features music, performers, and water screen projections on Discovery River.

Avatar Land will also have light-up sidewalks and illuminated plants after dark, brining guests into the bio-luminescent world of Pandora. Even the park's Tree of Life will reportedly go through a makeover to incorporate light effects on the leaves and branches.

The Avatar area at Disney's Animal Kingdom is set to open in 2017.

I'm not an Avatar fan at all, but I am really excited about getting a new land at Animal Kingdom. I can't wait to visit!

Sounds cool, but I still don't feel that Avatar Land belongs at AK, it should have been Hollywood Studios. And the Tree of Life is awesome as it is, I hope nothing is being changed on that! I miss the parade that went through AK, it was a big part of the visit. It wasn't there when we went last September. I will wait awhile before going to AK after Avatar opens, since it will likely be so crowded it won't be enjoyable. One of the things I enjoyed about AK is that it wasn't always overcrowded any time we went.

I would rather see another continent represented at Animal Kingdom. Would have been cool to see animals from South America or Australia. I think Avatar should have been part of Hollywood Studios. First Disney fail for me.

I'm excited that this will be at AK. I'll be curious to see if the park will stay open longer to enjoy the bioluminescence later when it's darker outside.
