Solar Farm to be Built Near Epcot Will Provide Energy to Walt Disney World Resort

The Walt Disney World Resort area is going to be home to a new solar farm built by Duke Energy. The solar farm will provide solar power to the resort and will be located on about 20 acres of land near World Drive and Epcot Center Drive.

The solar farm was approved by The Reedy Creek Improvement District through a vote that accepted a 15-year agreement with Duke Power. The land will be leased from Disney and Disney will buy the power.

And because it is Disney, the 48,000 solar panels will be arranged in the shape of Mickey Mouse's head.

Construction on the solar farm should begin this summer and it is expected to be in service by the end of this year. The facility is a 5-megawatt facility.

This solar project is part of Disney's ongoing commitment to sustainability which also includes turning food scraps into electricity and fertilizer and cutting emissions from theme park buses.

This Mickey Mouse-shaped solar project is the largest solar project at Walt Disney World Resort.
