Adding Info to a Reservation

When wanting to add a celebration (or any additional information) to your reservation and you originally booked the trip through a Travel Agent do you need to contact the Travel Agent or can you call Disney and add it? I've always assumed you can call Disney yourself for anything regarding your own reservation but I was recently told of an event where a CM wouldn't help and directed the person to their travel agent.

Your payments and changes to the substance of your reservation have to go through your TA, but you can retain control over and can book independently ADR's, FP+, tours & special events unless you've previously made other arrangements with your TA. I would thick that you could change that information on your ADR's, but you might not be able to change it on your resort reservation. You can always try and just give your TA a call if the CM won't let you do it.

OK that makes sense. But in this case a friend tried to call Disney to make sure they knew they had a celebration and the CM told her that she couldn't help and that she needed to contact her TA. In the end she found out that the TA had added the celebration before but I find in strange that the CM wouldn't say "Yep! I see you have a celebration right here! All set!" My friend wasn't trying to change the reservation itself at all. I was a little disappointed because I have had such very positive experiences with calling the CMs at Disney. I'm sad the friend didn't have the same experience.

Totally understand!! 9 times out of 10, the CM's on the phone are fabulous. It's that 10th time....yikes.

I have heard many times that if you go through a TA, you can not change or add things to your reservation. That everything has to go through the TA. Also people that have had problems with their reservations once they got to Disney, the CM's could not fix anything until the TA contacted Disney. We have never had these problems because we book ourselves and have never use a TA.

Very interesting. I used a TA on my first and second trips because I thought it would get us a deal. I quickly realized after the second trip that it totally didn't. I wonder if it matters what KIND of TA you use. We used one from AAA and I know that all she did was call Disney herself and book the trip (listened to her on the phone!), something I figured out we can do ourselves. I also figured out that I get way cheaper flights on my own. I'll tell my friend to make sure they have the TA's name and number on hand just in case but I can imagine that being a tough spot if you really needed to change something. If you were actually in WDW and needed a change there's no guarantee your TA is available. Yikes.
