Air Travel Nightmares?

So I've been having just about the worst luck ever on air travel recently and I'm curious if its a phenomenon related to:

1.) Me
2.) American Airlines
3.) Air travel in general.

I have had probably 50% of my flights delayed by 2 hours or more recently including a recent stay in MCO for 12 hours while I tried to get out. I'm wondering if other people are having similar problems, or if its just my bad luck. Or maybe American Airlines is just not performing?

Probably lots of factors at play, but I've experienced the same over the past year. I attribute it to my travel karma, but I think there's more to it...

Interesting article here: http://www.coxwashington.com/news/content/reporters/stories/2008/04/10/AIRLINE_DELAYS10_COX.html

Quote: Overall, fares have been lowered by deregulation, he said, but passenger dissatisfaction is growing almost hourly on issues such as flight delays and cancellations, lost luggage and passengers being stuck on runways.

"There is a palpable sense of outrage in the public" on these matters, he told witnesses from the airline industry and Department of Transportation.

I wouldn't expect it to get any better. Most airlines are making massive cutbacks due to the economy...probably not a likely source of improvement.

Airlines constantly mystify me. It's like a black box. It seems impossible to know why they make the choices they do. And what's worse is that the general public really has no way to vote with our feet--nobody can make any sense out of the empirical data to make a logical choice!

If anyone out there in cyberspace works for an airline, please help me understand how I can just book a flight, get on a plane, and arrive on time in the place in which I intended to arrive. Sad

You do have to cut them a break when it's weather issues. There's not much they can do about that and you don't really want them taking chances with large aluminum cans full of people hurtling through the air.

OK. But I've seen had experience with just plain old bad planning when it comes to weather issues. Sometimes you have to spend money to make money...and keep customers... wink
