Bringing a newbie -- week-long trip or long weekend?

What do you think is the best way to introduce someone to WDW: going for a week long trip and experiencing a lot of the parks and resorts, or heading down for a long weekend and just exploring bits and pieces?

I would have to go with a week long trip then you still are not going to get it all in. There is just so much to see and do that a weekend would not be enough time to even get started.

Always leave them wanting more! Do a weekend trip and hit all the highlights. They'll be hooked and know there's TONS more to see!

Well, after reading the above post I was reminded of our first trip taking newbies and I now have to change my mind to long weekend. That one did not go so well. Maybe it is best to start out small.

Short trips give you a better worst-case scenario. If they love it they'll want to come back and if they don't it's good that the trip is short.

Guess it depends on your relationship with the newbie and how much you like to be around them. Short trip is lower risk, lower reward (can still be awesome, just not quite as awesome) while the week long trip can be more rewarding but risky if it's someone you're not CERTAIN you want to spend a long, tiring week with.

It depends on how much I like the person..
Ok..no..scratch that. Pretty much everyone gets on my nerves after awhile..except for Dave...so I vote for long weekend.

2 years ago I brought a really good friend, during free dining, I paid for everything except her flight and stuff she wanted to buy. Room, tickets, even tips. She had just graduated college (not a youngster..she was 32 I was 34) so I wanted to go to WDW without the kids and I thought I would do something nice.

I also have a lot of friends that live in Fla and some family that lives in JAX so they came out too. I dont know if she thought she was the only person I was going to hang out with for 10 days or what (I have no idea why she would think that since she heard "I cant wait to see so and so" for MONTHS) but she got on my last nerve on the 3rd day (no we didnt let her feel left out...wdw vetrens LOVE to hear about someone first experience..dont you agree?) when she told me she didnt like how I was looking at someone (hey, I was a single girl then...if I wanna flirt on vacation without my kids I am gonna!) and went into this HUGE spiel about it. I then looked at her and said "I am walking out of this room right now and I wont be back for awhile or Im gonna drag you out and fling you off the balcony" We were on the 4th floor in the 70s building of POP. I seriously would have done it. There were trees below us...no one would have found her til the next morning LMAO kidding.

We will just say our friendship HAS NOT been the same since. Much less knowing that she acted like that when she basically got a free ride. No, I never held that over her head..but she has NOT been asked to come again. There is no reason to act like a 7 year old. She is/was not my ONLY friend.

however to add...when I brought Craig to DLR last spring he loved the way I loved being there and that he understood why I love to go to WDW and DLR...even when I got cranky. Im FAR from perfect. He has a MUCH longer stride than I do and I was trying to keep up with him..by the end of the first day I was CRANKY CRANKY CRANKY...apologizing profusely when I snapped.

Oh my goodness! That's a good reminder that it doesn't matter HOW much you love someone, being good friends and being good travel partners are two different things! I've learned that over and over again.

Travel is stressful -- even to Disney World and DL -- and you need someone you can manage that stress with.

You also never know how much they're going to be into Disney. A lot of people say they're Disney fans, but don't have quite the emotional attachment someone like me might have. So they might get Disney-ed out after a while.

Alice your story totally reiterates that we are never taking anyone else to Disney with us. People bug me.
