Caitiesus's & Teachdrama's TR!

Ok, so I know this took us a while to start...but things have been crazy and busy. But now we get to do something fun! I figure I will do one day every day in this thread for the next week. It was the BEST Disney trip either of us has ever been on (except for Jason's feet killing him due to horrible wedding shoes).

Day 1
Our flight was at 2:15 and we got to the airport early and SO excited. The flight was really bumpy and I almost lost my cell phone (so happy that Jason went to the gate and asked them to grab it). We got down to Magical Express and got checked in really quickly and into line (we had just missed the bus to the Grand Floridian, Poly, and Contemporary, but we still didn't have to wait for long). Caitie got to see her new last name on something for the first time! This is us SUPER excited!

We got to the Contemporary and checked in. Our room was on the 11th floor overlooking the Magic Kingdom. Here is a picture outside of the room!

People tend to not include the Contemporary on their favorite resorts list and I really don't get why! The room was very nice, the quick service food was great, and the location was amazing! The place IS themed too...everything is very sleek and modern and...contemporary. It may not be New Orleans or the Wilderness or the animal kingdom, but it is themed and everything sticks to that theme! This is our room (with me not knowing the picture is being taken until the last second).

I had gotten Jason a basket with champagne, cheese and crackers, chocolate, and the bride and grooms ears and it wasn't there when we got there so I called the front desk and it was under the wrong name! Here is us with the ears on!

We headed down for dinner at The Wave and this meal was my favorite of the entire trip (you will find out Jason's another day!). We got a card from Mickey and Minnie wishing us a happy honeymoon. Since I know food is VERY important here, we wrote down what we got and graded it all.

Jason
Black bean chili - A
Vanilla milkshake - A
linguine with clam & shrimp - B-
decadent dessert - B

Caitie
Smoothie - B-
Corn cheese soup - B+
Beef Tenderloin - A+
Mashed potatoes - A+
tomatoes - A+
Creamy desserts - B

It was one of the best meals I have ever had. The food was delicious, the service was excellent and I LOVED it. It is added to our must list. Jason thought it was pretty good, and would have liked it more if he got what I got. It was also our first experience with their recyclable straws that are carboardy and are awful! They have a taste...which is just weird!

It was MK EMH, so we headed there at 8:30. We did almost everything that night. We rode Haunted Mansion, Pirates, Winnie the Pooh, Buzz, Carousel of Progress, Splash Mountain, Jungle Cruise (where we had an amazing cast member. He had new jokes and made the ride seem fresh. He made a joke about us, which was cool), Small World, and Philharmagic. We met another couple with the ears at Philharmagic and they hadn't gotten anything and they were towards the end of their trip.

We also quickly met up with someone from netcot boards who I have talked to for a while just to say hi which was cool!

It was a great first night! We weren't really hungry so we didn't get the Dole Whip (which I regret) and just got pineapple juice instead!

Oh look! You've got the cute little bride and groom ears on! Did you get all sorts of special treatment for that?

Thanks for the TR--I look forward to reading more.

Sadly, not really. Other than a LOT of congratulations from cast members, there were only a couple of times anyone actually GAVE us anything. Caitie will put that in the TRs...

I feel the same way. I think it's a bit "plain" for most, but I think that being able to look out your window and see the MK is excellent themeing.

This is so great, you guys! That room looks HUGE! Thanks for taking notes on the Wave. We hadn't heard anything great about it, but now that you enjoyed it so much, we might make a special trip over there. Cheese Corn Soup sounds great!

Day 2

Origianally we were going to wake up early for EMH in DHS for Toy Story Mania, but we were out until 2 am, so we slept in a little and headed to Epcot since we had two ADRs there.

We went right to Soarin and got Fastpasses because the line was already over an hour. Then we went to one of my favorite attractions, The Seas With Nemo and Friends!

After that we headed to Germany for lunch. It was basic German food, sausages, schnitzel, strudel ect. We both REALLY liked it and would do it for lunch again! We loved sitting with other people. We sat with one family with two kids who were REALLY well behaved and a couple who just celebrated their 29th anniversary. They lived near WDW and were there just for lunch. I wish I could do that!

We also got to see the show which was neat. Jason especially like the bells and the horns.

We didn't even know we would be there for it, so that was a pleasant surprise!

As we walked out of the restaurant, a security guard saw our buttons and came up to us to let us know that he and his wife honeymooned there 39 years ago and he wished us all the happiness that he has had. It was a really nice moment!

I started taking pictures of the train set in Germany and got this one (that took about 15 tries...)

We went over to Italy and saw a Photopass guy who asked to stand in front of the globe and then said "I can't believe I just called it the Globe!" , which we both found amusing.

We saw Snow White come out and got a picture with her on Photopass, that was the only character we got the entire time because of lines Sad. I was REALLY hoping for Mickey and Minnie but the waits were so long.

We also went over to the tea cart in China, but they didn't have the Peach Snapps slushees anymore (which we have been raving about the everyone)! They have a tea, but it isn't as good.

We took the boat from Germany to Mexico and went and rode Spaceship Earth, looked at Innoventions and went to Soarin'. Soarin' was just as great as last time! After we rode we went and got another set of Fastpasses that we gave to a couple an hour later.

We took the boat back over again to Morocco for dinner and had our first major disappointment in Disney dining. The service was HORRIBLE. We sat there for ten minutes and no waiter had even come by. The waiter at the table next to us asked if we had been helped and when we said no, he said he would at least get our drink orders. The special plates were extra, which was fine, but the food was just not as good.

Jason - Night in Casablanca - B- (and he always gets this and loves it
Caitie - Couscous special - B-

We then headed to the Poly for the Beach meetup for Tikifest. At first no one was there (it had been raining so I guess they were just waiting) and we met a nice couple at the bar who was also wondering where everyone was. Once other people got there we hung out for a little, but we didn't win anything in the drawing. It was a little disappointing because a lot of people laready knew each other.

We headed to Downtown Disney to do some shopping, but Jason's feet hurt too much from the awful wedding shoes so we just went back to the hotel.

Tomorrow is the honeymoon gift Jason gave me that was AMAZING. I will have to decide what I want to include, since I don't want to ruin it for anyone else who might want to do this!

Bummer that Morocco was no good. I think that's the first bad(ish) review I've heard of it. Although I have to say the service has never featured highly in anyone's endorsement.

Way to pique some interest! Can't wait to find out what it was.
I'm sorry your meal in Morocco was so disappointing. Somebody new in the kitchen and a bad server, all in one meal? That's really bad luck.

The last time we went, we LOVED Morocco so much that it became a Must for us this trip. It just didn't meet our expectations this time both in terms of service and food. I mean, the lamb was pretty good, but everything else was just mediocre at best.

Wait till Caitie gets to her report on Ohana....!

Awesome report so far, guys! I LOVE that picture of the wedding couple in front of the train set -- is that always there, or does the scene change?

I'm glad to hear a good report on Biergarten (isn't it funny how we always include "really well behaved" when we talk about kids at Disney World?). I can't remember the last time I ate there and really look forward to doing so. biggrin

Too bad about Morocco. That just sort of chalks it up to me not even wanting to try it... sad

The service at Restaurant Marrakesh is consistent at one thing: being inconsistent. It shouldn't be that way, but it really is a gamble when you book this place. I find though, that the CMs at Morocco are some of the nicest and most attentive on property, so that makes this inconsistency even more perplexing.

I love Biergarten. It's still somewhat of an 'overlooked' restaurant, in that it's never hard to get an ADR. I think it's one of WS' best restaurants, if you factor everything in regarding entertainment, atmosphere and food and beverage choices.

Great TR so far. I look forward to reading the rest.

We got to the Magic Kingdom at about 9:30 and stopped at the bakery for
a quick breakfast. I got a muffin (B) and Jason got a chocolate
croissant (B+).

Jason then led me to the wishing well by the castle where I found....a rose and this piece of paper.

Beauty and the Beast is the movie we watched on our first date and my favorite Disney movie. which is why he went with that storyline. They have multiple storylines and you can do hunts in other parks...or do one that is in multiple parks and lasts the entire day! They adjust how many clues you have based on the pace you set.

I won't give away all of the locations because they probably reuse some, but I will show some highlights!

We had gotten the first clue that told us to go to the Christmas shop in Liberty Square and were walking there when a cast member at Peter Pan said she needed two newlyweds to ride the ride...but we couldn't! This was the only fastpass perk we got the whole trip and it came when we couldn't use it! It if it been later in the hunt we would have stopped and showed her what we were doing but we were too excited!

Here i am by the first location

Smee tried to trick us by telling us there was a rose near the cannons outside Swiss Family Treehouse, luckily Belle and Beast left us this messge.

With the hunt we had to ride Pirates (the rose would not appear until after we had) and the best one by FAR was this clue!

I won't tell you HOW I got the rose from a ghost but I did!

To keep other people from taking things, they at least five people following us and guarding clues (some gave Jason hints when i wasn't looking if we had issues). The hardest one to find was in Pooh's Playground we had to find Gopher's Home....look at this picture and how the sign is covered! We spent 10 minutes here!

But I did get to my gift in time and the gift was amazing! Jason had gotten friends and family to write me messages and the people at Gifts of a Lifetime put them into Chicken Broth for hte Newly Married Soul. Jason also shared some of our first messages online and commentated.

Here is a picture of all that I got from this!

We grabbed lunch in the Tomorrowland restaurant and went back ot the hotel to take a nap!

We took the bus to Boma - the bus driver switched the bus from AK to AKL so we wouldn't have to get off. We had dinner at Boma (Jason's favorite restaurant). i was kind of irked that you couldn't get smoothies with the dining plan there, but you could at a lot of other places, Disney needs to be more consistent!

Jason gave it an A as always, his favorites were crap soup, corn-spinach pudding (he asked for the recipe) and potatoes with Afritude. I gave it a C because it is just not my thing.

We got a special honeymoon dessert plate that have pistachio macaroons, a chocolate truffle (that was SO good), a spice cake, and an orange jelly. They were better than the regular desserts!

We then headed to DHS so we could actually see Fantasmic. We wanted 90 minutes for Toy Story Mania, which was fun, but not worth the wait. We both got the rabbit prizes, Jason won by 14,000 points!

Fantasmic was fantastic! It is my favorite. i just don't understand why it is twice a day, three times a week. Why don't they just have it once a night days a week? It made planning that much more difficult!

What an amazing day! I'm sorry you didn't get to ride Peter Pan with no wait, but it sounds like the surprise was pulled off without a hitch! And that gift sounds so thoughtful, Jason! There's no better gift that well-wishes and memories from your family. muchlove

This also sounds like quite an endorsement for Gifts of a Lifetime. Were they a good service?

Thanks for the TR so far!

Jane, the head of the company who I dealt with, was a little bit abrupt at times, but when it came down to it, they did a fantastic job with the gift and I can't complain about that. I wish the "Pixies" who had followed us around were a LITTLE more discreet as Caitie was able to pick out a couple of them along the way (they try to look like regular tourists, but two of them wore shirts that were too bright and made them noticable when we saw them more than once). On the other hand, there was one at one of the stops who helped me find a rose and I had no idea she was with the company. When Caitie was looking in the wrong direction, a woman who I hadn't seen before pointed me towards where the next clue would be. I just looked up and she was indicating. We picked out at least four people who were following us along the way - there may have been more though. That was really the only drawback to the gift - if they hid themselves in plain sight a LITTLE better by not being so obvious with their bright red and green "tourist" shirts it would have been perfect.

So the one a day thing isn't working out so well. i blame Jason since he won't help me out at all!

Day 4

We woke up early to get over to Animal Kingdom for EMH so we could get
on EE a couple times. One thing that was great with the buses at
Contemporary that I did not see last time at All Star Music is there
was a women standing by the door you come out of to go to the buses
that asked if you were going to the park of the bus that was there. We
were, so she asked the driver to wait for us. It was nice that we
didn't just miss it and have to wait 15-20 minutes for the next bus
because we couldn't get there fast enough!

We went right to Expedition Everest, grabbed a FastPass and rode it
(the line was 15 minutes). That queue is amazing! The only reason the
line was 15 minutes is because people were looking at the details of
the queue. The one thing that annoyed me was all of those bells that
people kept ringing. Was that touch really necessary?

We went over to Dinoland and rode Primeval Whirl (mostly because we
didn't want to walk all the way over to the safari) and it was ok. We
also got ice cream because it was the only food open and we were
hungry.

We went back to EE to ride it again and got another two FastPasses,
which we gave to another couple that was on their honeymoon later!

We then headed to our favorite show in all of Walt Disney World -
Finding Nemo the musical! We are HUGE musical theater fans, so we are
inclined to like it, but it went beyond our expectations the first time
we saw it, and we still loved it this time! It was written by the same
people who wrote Avenue Q and I think the music and the puppets are
fantastic! We were singing "In the Big Blue World" and "Go With the
Flow" for the rest of the trip!

We were hungry and it was finaly lunchtime, so we headed to the counter
service part of Yak & Yeti..but there was only outdoor seating. So
we went over to Flametree BBQ which looks so good...but again..only
outdoor seating and it was over 90 degrees in the shade so we went to
Pizzafari which is just ok. That is another reason to go in the fall or
spring - you can eat at those counter service places!

We then headed to Downtown Disney by taking a bus towards there and
switching because we needed to go shopping! We got a really cute
ornament at the Christmas store that has a bride and groom Minnie nad
Mickey in a diamond ring. We still couldn't decide on the art, so we
thought we would wait until Epcot. I got a really cute red shirt that
has all the parks on it and a cross stitch pattern of Mickey, Minnie,
and Pluto that we loved. It will take me forever to get to it because I
have a huge one to do for my mom, but when it is eventually done, it
will be a nice addition to our home!

We went back for a nap...and then went to dinner.

We went to Ohana. See, Ohana is what I used to say is my favorite
restaurant in the world...not just Disney World. We went last time and
LOVED it. We love the places that bring meat out and combine that with
the amazing salad, appetizers, sides, and dessert and it was the
perfect meal!

Well...not this time at ALL. We got there, ordered our drinks (we got
$30 on our honeymoon registry and wanted alcohol) and were enjoying the
atmosphere and suddenly the salad in on the table. We made a comment
about fast service and then...the appetizers are all there and the
sides...and they come out with the meats about 60 seconds after that.
Three minutes later we finally got our drinks. It was AWFUL! You should
not get all the food at once! I was surprised they didn't put the
dessert down right at that moment too! Since all the food was there at
once, the quality was down too because by the time I got to some of the
dishes (well at least half of them) they were already cold!

My father has worked in food service his whole life and has been
opening manager of restaurants, so I have learned when to talk to a
manager...and this was one of those cases. He came over and we
explained how this was supposed to be a special meal for our honeymoon
and I told him about the problem with the service. He looked appalled
and apologized to us for the issues. Since we told him, he took our
drinks off the bill and we got an extra special dessert (I don't
remember what it was but it was good). Make sure that if you have bad
service...you say something! If people have bad enough service to
complain, Disney may change something!

After that, we went to DHS for EMH and the lines were still terrible.
Over 2 hours for Toy Story Mania, so we didn't get to ride that one
again. We did get to go on Star Tours, Tower of Terror (Jason's
favorite ride), One Man's Dream, Great Movie Ride (which desperately
needs an update), and teh Animation Academy. It was really cool to see
some of the story boards from Princess and the Frog - I can't wait to
see the movie! Jason also finally found a shirt he loved!

On the bus back to the hotel, we met a really nice couple who also got
married on August 1 in Toronto. They were very friendly and we found
out they almost booked the same cruise we did!

Hopefully I will do another one tomorrow!

(And I am sure the crap soup was a Freudian slip since I do not like boma)

1. The EE bells. I'm in total agreement. It's especially bad when you're in that queue line for a LONG time... everyone feels the need to ring those bells.

2. Ice Cream for breakfast: I really think Disney parks need to figure out more quick service (or even kiosk) locations to have breakfast. As for Animal Kingdom, there IS the new tea place up by Kali River Rapids that has different kinds of tea and pastries; that might be a good spot for breakfast, but I'm not sure when it opens.

3. I'm so sorry you had such bad service at 'Ohana. We've been discussing how every time we go back there it seems to be worse (and the food just doesn't taste good anymore). Sad

Thanks for more trip report! I'm loving hearing about your trip!

I looked around forever to find the thread about 'Ohana going downhill and there's a post in there by Caitie defending it! laugh

It really does seem like they're just getting lazy there because people like it so much. Although the dessert has been great even in their decline. Yet another reason to probably mention that it hasn't been good.

The defense went away with this trip -- it WAS her favorite restaurant but it wasn't just bad - it was some of the worst service we've encountered anywhere.

Hopefully it will return to its former glory. Until then, I'll steer clear.
