Camera Suggestions

I have been moaning and groaning for years about my pictures and have finally talked myself into buying a DSLR before we go to Disney. This is not why I want the DSLR but I figure if I am going to get one I may as well set myself a good deadline. Does anyone have any suggestions of a good camera for a first timer (with an awesome automatic setting while I am learning the ins and outs) that won't break the bank? I have heard the Nikons are great but I also don't have millions of dollars to spend. Any suggestions??

Hi Bella. We bought a new DSLR in late 2010 and ended up getting the Canon EOS Rebel T2i.

Joe ordered it through Amazon and got the camera, 2 lenses (one a telephoto) and a filter plus a few other small things for a little under $700 after some rebates and promos.

I use the automatic settings and he uses all the other self-settings. We got it in 2010 right before our December Disney trip, and we've been really happy with it. We don't use the telephoto lens very much - I think maybe 3 times in 2 years Tongue

I don't have a DSLR, but I love my Olympus Stylus 840 point and shoot. It has some cool settings on it.

I have a Canon EOS Rebel XTi with an EFS 17-85mm lense and a Lexar Professional 300x 4gig flash card. LOVE IT

Well Bella, my newest camera is a Olympus SP-810UZ , has a 32X wide angle lens and does HD & 3D. Is is point and shoot but also ha all the abilities of a DLSR other then you can not change the lens. Its a really nice camera and is a great starter camera. I have several cameras though from point and shoot Kodaks to my Nikon 40DX DLSR with several diff lens. What do I usually end up taking into the parks, the point and shoots. They are just easier, but this Olympus is pretty compact and still does a great zoom!.

Alot of people rushed out and got this camera and didn't realize it's capabilities, and got really frustrated and gave it bad reviews, but the camera is excellent if you take your time to learn it.

Hi!

I have the Nikon D90, it's the camera the Photopass cast members use at Disney. I highly recommend it if it's in your budget.

You know ZapperZ takes such great photos with his point and shoot that I always thought it was all about skill. But I have to say DW's Rebel takes a mean picture. Of course she has enough skill to make it work too. It doesn't do nearly as neat of things for me.

I have a Nikon D5000 that I really love, but honestly I had a D40 that was just as good I think.

When I bought my D40 I went to a used camera store to buy it because it's where most photographers go to trade up their cameras so you know they are really taken care of well. Plus, it was half the price!

Ahh! So many great tips!! I will have to check out the camera store, we actually have one right down the street that I've never been to. I have heard they sell used cameras.
