Do you get the resort mug?

I used to get these every trip (back when they were actually "resort specific" mugs, and not just standard mugs) because they were a great souvenir of the places I'd stayed (and I chug diet coke like there's no tomorrow, so it was a cost savings). I really liked that I could use mine at Beaches and Cream when I used to stay at the BC a lot.

However, it can be a real hike to the refill station at some of the resorts, and if you have a room that's far from the refill station I've found that I just don't get those refills as much as I'd like. Plus, the thing only holds 12 oz, which is pretty much one sip for me laugh I needed a refill before I got back to my room!

Do you get 'em? Would you get 'em if they were easier to refill?

Hi bali!

I'd buy one every trip if I could, but I chug milk the way you chug Diet Coke. I don't know if the refill stations have milk.

My name is Jim and I'm a milkaholic.

I've never bought one. I think they're a good idea, but I just never have.

For us, it depends on our length of stay. If we're there for a long weekend, we don't buy one, because we won't refill it enough times to justify the roughly $12 price. If we're there seven days or more we buy it.

But I agree bali, it was much better when they were resort specific.

Good to see you, Jim! It's a horrible curse, isn't it? I always get a "fastpass to the bathroom" at Whispering Canyon Cafe because I drink so much diet coke!

Unfortunately, though, no milk Sad available for the refill mugs.

I didn't do this last time. I've been thinking about it for my next trip, but it depends on a number of factors.

1. Where is my room in relation to the refill stations? If I have to hike a long distance out of my way to get there, it's probably not going to happen.

2. Can I get iced coffee (as opposed to hot coffee)? If so, I might do it.

3. I'll crunch the numbers, based on what a 12 oz. iced coffee would normally cost, think about how many I'd actually take advantage of, and see if it is worth it. If so, I'd get it.

I certainly don't want the mug for the sake of the mug. I've got nicer travel mugs than that. To me, it's all about whether it's cost-effective.

I don't drink a lot of beverages without food and I tend to eat at table service restaurants, so I just wouldn't be able to get my money out of it. I think it's one of those fun things about WDW like package delivery and using your room key to pay for things that add to the fun though.

Quick reminder that you can get refills at the main pool at CSR as well as in the food areas in the lobby building (so, if you're in one of the ranchos or cabanas buildings next to the pool, that might be useful).

Also, in the food court you should be able to PUT ice in your coffee...does that count?

So true. I think this is akin to the lengths Disney goes to to put a distance between you and your home "reality" while you're on vacation.

You only use your room key to pay for things, meaning you're not exposed to all of that "reality" stuff in your purse or wallet, you drink only out of the magical free refills mug, you don't have access to real world news unless your desperately want it...

All that "carefree-ness" becomes addicting!

If you are naughty and bring it back, the value proposition becomes much better! Not that I'm endorsing doing that mind you.

That's what happens to me, too. Though I've been known to grab coffee on my way out to the parks and carry the mug with me all day! laugh

Question: are the mugs all the same now, or are they still representative of the individual resorts?

We got it last time and loved having it. We carried it around in a bag with us, so that as we passed the refill station on the way back in we would get a drink. I hadn't thought about it before, but think we could sneak some drinks from the Ice Station in Epcot in there?

But then you'd have REALLY bad Disney karma and something horrible would happen...like Toy Story Mania would shut down RIGHT before you got on... eek laugh

I used to when they were just for a resort. But now that they are all the same I dont anymore. I love the Alice mugs from the GF, I have several of those.

Would love to see a picture. I agree that the resort-specific mugs make the trip much more memorable. (And oddly made me want to visit all the different resorts to get their mugs!)

I think all of the "cost cutting" measures like that hurt what makes Disney World, Disney World. I'm totally with you that I would much rather buy a customized mug and it really does make you want to try all the resorts out. While that's probably not enough to offset the cost of producing all the different ones, there are a lot of secondary effects that are probably worth it.

When did they stop the resort specific mugs?? It's been about a year since I have been there, but the last time I was there they had the resort specific mugs. That makes me sad. For me that was part of the fun of it. I always bought the mug.

I agree that it really takes something out of it if it's not a collector's item. I want it as a memento as well as discounted refreshment.

Everyone's making their own mugs these days, you'd think the resorts could still do it.
