Everything Finally Booked!!...Now What?

50 DAYS!!!!

Hey everyone! Not sure If any of you have read any of my previous threads or posts, but I'm treating my girlfriend to a vacation to WDW in July. It was going to be a surprise but I kind of couldn't hold in the suspense and told her a few weeks ago. We'll be there from July 12th (Thursday) morning, to July 17th (Tuesday) evening. And oh...I'm going to propose. awesome

Memorial Day is my 45 day mark, where final balance is due. I just got all of it saved up, and I'm going to call my TA and make final payment tomorrow. I'm so excited! I got my airfare too.

Here's the plan: We're going to stay club level at AKL, 5 nights. I got an incredible deal. We're going to arrive in Orlando at 11:15AM on the 12th, and our flight departs Orlando at 9:29PM on the 17th.

Thursday 12th - check-in, explore, Boma for dinner, DTD at night for drinks and fun.

Friday 13th -in-room breakfast, DHS, CS Lunch, Fantasmic w/ Mama Melrose (6PM dinner, 9PM show)

Sat 14th - Magic Kingdom, Crystal Palace breakfast, CS Lunch, Citricos for dinner.

Sun 15th - Sunrise Safari (breakfast included), Animal Kingdom, CS Lunch, Dinner at Ohana.

Mon 16th - Epcot. CS's for Lunch around the World Showcase, Dinner at Tutto Italia.

Tues 17th - ? ? ? ? ? ?....Magical Express picks us up to go home at 6:29PM.

I figured we'll just decide what we want to do on that departure day while we're there...see which park she likes the most. She hasn't been there before. But I want to look at menus with her so we can make any ADR's while we're there.

I'm going to go for deluxe dining...I'm going to save up a lil bit more before I buy it though. Probably another 30 days or so.

Any suggestions for our departure day? Dining suggestions?
Any suggestions at all? lol...Any comments or holes in my planning?

I know it's going to be hot and crowded. So I thought if we make rope drops, and do what we wanna do before 12pm-1pm, then head back to the resort for the afternoon to relax and cool off, and then return to the park at dinnertime.

So what do we do now besides look forward to our vacation!?!?

Friday 13th -- The apricot brioche stuffed french toast on the AKL Room Service Menu is AWESOME. They make a pretty dern good omelette too.

Departure Day -- Now, I'm usually one for just sleeping in and eating breakfast at Boma on my last day. However, you have a LOT of time before ME comes to pick you up. I would consider adding another Park Day and doing your favorite rides over again.

What are your next steps? For me it would be time to make a packing list, making sure you have enough luggage, buy toiletries, double check camera equipment, buy extra batteries. I usually get a big shopping bag and set things aside in it as I buy things for vacation. Check what your airlines baggage policies are so there are no surprises there. Make a countdown calender to build excitement, watch some Disney Movies, make a list of "must do" attractions for the both of you.

Have fun!

I don't see the proposal in the itinerary...will it be planned or just a 'this moment feels like the moment' proposal?

Between now and travel day there is so much to do, mostly being on these boards and getting even more excited lol! I always watch a couple of my fave films, throw in a vacation planning DVD, a few trip vlogs on YouTube etc as well as doing all the holiday shopping, list making and of course ADR bookings!

lol, this is EXACTLY what my mom just told me she's concerned about. I mean..I don't even have a ring yet. She said she's going to give me 3 stones for me to put in a ring, I just need to buy a setting.

But..to answer both of you guys, I know I want to propose early in the trip. To be honest, my girlfriend is kinda expecting it..and I know she'll be bummed and start to think I don't even have it planned out AND/OR don't actually have a ring AND/OR not going to propose during the trip. So before she gets all doubt'y on me lol, I'm going to propose early in the trip.

I don't want to carry a box with a ring in it through park(Drunk in the humidity, heat, & crowds. So it'll probably be in the room, somewhere in AKL, OR! In DTD that night.

I've read through so so so many Disney proposal ideas, and those options are left when I eliminate all the cheesy options like in front of Cinderella's Castle. lol

Thanks for the AKL tips, Kristen!!!

I think a countdown calendar would work best when it's down to 30 days....now...time to watch Lion King! awesome

Okay get a ring. That's number 1 on your list!

I like the idea of doing it early. That way you can celebrate your new engagement in Disney! How about doing the hotair balloon in DTD and proposing up there?

Okay if she is (or you are) afraid of heights, scratch that idea.

LoL... My Best Friend Becks about nearly had a nervous breakdown before (what turned out to be) her engagement vacation because he had waited so long to ask. It nearly ruined their whole trip. When she called me from Disney (he did the fireworks/castle thing) to tell us he had finally proposed our whole house errupted in cheers and screaming.

I don't know what kind of a gal your love it (practical or dramatic) but I wouldn't discount the magic of "cheesy" Disney themeing. Make a memory, a wonderful one, you have some of the most amazing locations to chose from. At AK I think that the Arusha Rock viewing area is lovely and could be a romantic spot. There's a firepit where they tell stories every night. You could ask her to start a new story with you. At DTD, I think Ghiradelli's Ice Cream Shop would be a fun spot to stop for "something sweet" and propose. Oh! There's also a pretty little carousel at DTD over near the Earl of Sandwich that you could ride.

Now... you wanted to know what to do next... GO GET THE RING!! laugh

I absolutely agree, GET THE RING! BTW, do you know how your girlfriend would feel about a public proposal? I would be mortified, I'm a much more private kind of person but that's just how I feel. I think you may need to factor in how she may feel about others watching a special moment in your lives, as opposed to a private proposal. And yes, don't wait too long into your trip - especially if she kind of suspects it already. You can carry the ring in your wallet, that's what my husband did last year muchlove .
And oh, GET THE RING! laugh laugh

If you're going to DTD the first evening, you could take the boat up to POR from there, and do the horse drawn carriage ride. (I believe you can book those in advance - does anyone else know for sure about that?) That would maybe be a really nice place to propose - the grounds are lovely, and it's a little more private than in the middle of a park, but more romantic than just in the room, etc.

I don't know about the fireworks/castle being cheesy - we actually saw a proposal a couple of weeks ago on the Tomorrowland bridge, just as the fireworks were starting. Everyone was so busy watching the fireworks, only those of us a couple of feet away actually saw it. It was just lovely, and I was blubbering like an idiot. laugh

She's definitely a private proposal type of girl. Least people the better. I'm strongly considering the balloon in DTD...

The DTD balloon sounds like a fantastic place provided she can handle heights. It's public, but not too many people with you. Oh and.....

GET THE RING !! rolling

Even though my mom is going to graciously give me diamonds for the ring...I still need a setting. Only one problem...

Rings -- even settings are EXPENSIVE! lol

Have a little list of your ADR#s with you. That has helped us a couple times.

You could contact the California Grill - not for a dinner reservation - but for a bit of help with the proposal?
There have an observation deck on the top of the Contemporary that is a great place to watch fireworks from. You said that your sweetie is a private proposal girl, and you wouldn't want to necessarily propose there DURING the fireworks, but maybe after? Or Before? If you contact the resort or the restaurant, they just might help you set something up . . .

Or the AKL might help you out with some quiet space, even during the Sunset Safari - or with an extra special room service breakfast, with champagne, or something?

Sometimes the Disney Magic is only a phone call or eMail away . . .
