I tried making character breakfast reservations for Crystal Palace but the reservation system is not working right now. I can't even retrieve my vacation information because the reservation system is also down there too. I'm not quite sure where else to make reservations for when it comes to dining since we are on a budget this time around (I've never gone on a tight budget before).

We are staying at the All Star Movie Resort this time. I've stayed at Caribbean Beach, AKL and PO Riverside before. First time staying at a value resort so I'm pretty intrigued.

I was just there last October for a week with my husband. We did the Mickey Not So Scary Halloween party and had a blast. Before that I visited in 2002 and honeymooned in 2003 there with my first husband. Most recent trip was my hubby's first time and we quite enjoyed it. I didn't think I was going to get to go again so soon but my best friend has been having a rough time lately so I thought I'd surprise her and take her for a week to get out of the dull drums Smile She's never been either so it will be fun to experience everything with her as she does it all for the first time.

Thank you! I am originally from Ontario, Canada but I moved to San Diego when I met my husband Smile We live in the Northern Part of San Diego County now and it sure is beautiful here! I love not having the snow to worry about anymore.

Welcome!! Sounds like a great trip for you and your friend! As far as low-cost, good food goes, have you thought about booking reservations at The Plaza in Magic Kingdom? Also, don't miss Beaches and Cream over at the Beach Club -- you can't get reservations, but it's yummy food and very inexpensive!

50's Prime Time Cafe in Disney's Hollywood Studios is also lower-priced (relatively biggrin )

Can't wait to hear more about your trip and your plans!

Hey there and welcome aboard!

I'll be interested to hear your opinions on values. I'm always conflicted about them.

So is it just you and your friend going, or is your husband going too?

Riverside is so pretty and picturesque. When we stayed there we had one of the Mansion rooms and I had no complaints Smile I loved the pool too. Very big and just well designed. Food court has lots of selection too. As far as buses go... just give yourself plenty of time to get to wherever you are going. They seemed to come on a pretty regular basis when we were there.

It's just me and my friend going. Should be tons of fun. I am interested to see what the Values are like too. To me they always seemed cheesy from an asthetic point of view. I hope I'm in for a surprise and they're not. I hear they are overrun with kids as well which I am not really looking forward to. If money were not an object I would have gone with a moderate resort. I really like that category of hotel. Seems to fit my budget AND my taste where asthetics are concerned.

I don't want to over-sell you on the Values. They aren't as "magical" as the moderates or deluxes and in many ways feel a bit "cheesy" as you say, but I think on a cost basis they are probably the best deal. Most people don't spend that much time in their room and you get all the easy access of being on property. When we stay at POP we usually think "this isn't nearly as nice as CBR, but we're only paying about 1/3 as much and it's not bad here."

Oh I fully expect it to be less than stellar. I don't imagine we will be around the room much anyway due to it being my best friend's first time and we will only be there for 3 full days. When I go with my hubby I tend to spend more time in the room napping and hanging around the resort so I doubt we'd stay at a value resort. I guess I will have to wait and see if I'm surprised or not.

Welcome! We're very glad you've found us. Can't WAIT to hear about your trip - what an adventure...it's kind of fun that you're getting to try out a completely different resort!

For counter service, we love Columbia Harbor House in Magic Kingdom - delicious fish and chps and clam chowder, and easy on the pocket book.

Since you've been a number of times and it's your friend's first trip, what are your "must dos" that you're going to try and have her experience?

She is a big fan of the Little Mermaid, Monsters Inc and Finding Nemo so the attractions that involve them are high on the list. She loves Space Mountain (experienced it at Disneyland) so we'll go on that too. I'm letting her pick and choose what she wants to do since I've been there so many times before. I just went 8 months ago clapping

If she's been on Space Mountain at Disneyland I fear the WDW version may be a bit of a disappointment from what I understand.

That's what some say (I've never been to DLR, so I can't compare.) I understand that WDW's SM is a little rougher, maybe? Still, I love it.

I hope you have a fantastic time! A friend of mine just finished up her first trip to WDW since she was a child, and she especially loved the Monster's Inc Laugh Floor attraction. It is SO much fun!

I loved the Laugh Floor but was a little leery of being picked out of the crowd. I hate being the center of attention. Thankfully I never was chosen Smile

I thought they refurbished the WDW SM after they redid the one at Disneyland???

it's still not as good as DL.. it's not "horrible" but DL's is better.. it's smoother! and DL has side by side seating

That's right... I remember it was single seating at the WDW one. I guess I will let her make the call on which one is better.

I thought they put the side by seating in SM at WDW? Oh well, never really liked that ride anyway. Always gave me a neck ache after I got off.
