Hi Everyone!

I finally decided to jump in here with you guys. I am a solo Disney traveler...mom of 4 grown up kids. Bought an annual pass this year in honor of my finishing my PhD (whew), and I am headed down for my 2nd of 3 trips this summer (lovin that teacher schedule). I love reading all your posts, and I am still trying to figure out how to add the counter, avatar/pics, etc.

4 days till I go back "home." mickey

Thank you for the well wishes! I earned a Doctor of Philosophy in Language and Literacy Education, with an emphasis on literature for children and young adults.

I currently serve as a media specialist with elementary kiddos, so I am around the magic all day. The kids have truly inspired me to celebrate my degree at Disney. They keep me so excited all the time, and vice versa. mickey

So where do I get that cool counter to my next visit?

Hey there and welcome. Congrats on your PhD. clapping

Not only do the people have amazing Disney skills, but they also help you with computer problems, and in my case anyway, editing a photo! (thank you again MrHub). awesome

We are an inquisitive bunch, so you are going to have to tell us all about where you are staying, favourite rides, restaurants, etc. If we can't BE at Disney, we can enjoy it through everyone else's trip. yay

I am actually staying offsite at various Marriott properities to maximize some free night offers they are running for rewards members. I have racked up a few free nights and LOTS of points just this summer using a Marriott rewards card and staying on the properities. The Lake Buena Vista Fairfields and Courtyards are so close to DTD, and I really prefer driving to the parks instead of use WDW transportation. Much quicker getting in and out. My last trip down a few weeks ago, I only used about a quarter of a tank for an entire week driving back and forth. Well worth it.

I have stayed at the ASM in past years, and at Ft. Wilderness (in a nice RV). Although I do love the magic of the resorts, I have chosen to stay offsite these trips to save lots of $$ - offsets the AP and gas to drive down from Georgia.

But - I sure would like to stay at the GF, the AK, and the others. Perhaps in my future I will spring for them - perhaps a couple of nights, then finish out economy. So many fun options!

More later on favorite park stuff...I could type for hours. You know how it is when you are a Disney lover. mickey

DisneyDoc!

A) Welcome!!

B) Congratulations on your Ph.D. That is FABULOUS!!!

C) Are you going to be there for 4th of July?? I hear that's the best fireworks show goin'!!

D) When you have time, I would love to hear more about your experiences with driving and parking vs. using Disney transportation. We drive down as well, and I'm always wondering why they say Disney transportation is better--it's usually an hour door to door for us, and that doesn't feel very efficient to me!

Hey Nancy! I am here right now for the week of the 4th. I have done the resort/bus/trans thing in years past, and I am sold on driving. I have saved lots of time doing this. For example, last night I was sitting in Fantasmic at 11 PM when it ended, but was in my hotel room all cleaned up for bed by 11:45. No joke!

Now realistically, the MK is more of hassle, because you have to get to the T&TC first. And the crowds are a lot worse at night at that park when the fireworks and parades end. But I still caught a Ferryboat out of there and got to my car quickly.

I remember staying at Ft Wilderness and All Star Music when my kids were younger, and we even drove a couple of times just to get back earlier.

Since I am an AP holder, I get free parking. This is indeed something to take into account - if you are not, parking will cost you $14 a pop every time, and if you move parks that is a killer.

I think that you only pay for parking once. Just show your parking ticket at the next parking lot and there's no fee. Though I could be wrong, I don't usually drive, I'm pretty sure Disney only makes you pay for parking once, and if you're staying at a WDW Resort Hotel parking is free.

I think you are correct Kristen only once a day for parking fees, and free if staying at a WDW resort. If staying at a WDW resort they give you a printed parking pass to put on your windshield for the duration of your stay.

ya just a one time charge per day, the one time i stayed off property we had a car and you just payed the one fee, they gave you a receipt to show at the other parks if you went somewhere else
