We're both teachers, so we go in August. The crowd numbers tend to be 7's, 8's and 9's when we're there.
We plan around the crowds. We're at the parks for Rope Drop, and on our way out at lunchtime. By the time the parks are crazy-busy we're back in the resort, enjoying a swim. We return for dinner. After fireworks we sit and people watch, or grab a snack.
That said, in our last 3 trips there was only ONE time when we waited more than 20 minutes for any ride. (Our first trip, I took BAD advice and did laundry, getting us to DHS too late for a fastpass to Toy Story Mania. We waited 90 minutes. Lesson learned.)
So I guess I really don't mind crowds, as long as they're BEHIND us in line.
That said, I have no intention of ever going over Christmas, Thanksgiving, President's Week or Easter.
